Personal Statement: My Advice To High School Senior

Decent Essays
My advice to high school senior or even juniors, sophomores, and freshmen, no matter how low or high they make on the ACT, they should apply for college. You don’t need to know your major or career goals right away so don’t let anyone tell you that you should have it figured out right about now. After a person graduate, he or she can plan their life out and set goals. It’s never too late to apply or attend any college. If I can do it and keep motivating myself to get where I want to be, I know other people can

As the year comes to an end, all that is left is prepare for senior year and advise the incoming juniors of what to expect. First and foremost, to all of the incoming juniors I would like to advise that they enjoy their experience as a Junior but not stray from their education. Junior year is such an important year for college futures and career paths, that so much uncertainty leads students to stray down the wrong path. As long as they know their priorities, the incoming juniors will be able to enjoy their junior year. Me, as an incoming senior, want to take my own advice and enjoy the year while setting my priorities straight.…

Although growing up in a household surrounded by Vietnamese tongue, my parents always made the conscious effort to ensure that I was becoming more fluent in English—as I read the Little Golden Books Series every night before I slept, watched the Berenstain Bears on the small, bulky cathode ray television before me, and completed numerous School Zone workbooks—so that I wouldn’t be a step behind my English-speaking peers once I was sent off to pre-kindergarten. I never thought much of it, but the idea of one day—in the distant future—walking through confetti with a cap and gown on and a diploma in my hand had always been ingrained since I was four. I knew that I was going to graduate high school and go to college before I could even use the…

Often times, I've been dismissed in society just because of my cultural background, however, it will not determine my future- the school has made me passionate and grateful for everything I've received. School itself has made me excel, discover colleges, and expand my interests. My hard work has paid off as my grades led me straight to the group the top-performing students, especially in mathematics and science. During my school years, I have been praised for my hard work for either helping teach other students, managing the classroom and even recommending ways to improve the class itself. High school brought on difficult challenges, but when I experienced Advanced Placement, it changed my whole perspective, and with my first score it inspired me to take more AP classes regardless of the work effort, even the teacher…

Throughout my life, there have been multiple places where I faintly see God. One day that I felt his presence more than ever was the day after the 2016 election. On the day of the election, there was a lot of tension in Marquette University High School. I do not know how many people felt it, but I know that I did, and I could see that some classmates acted a little out of the usual, and ignored me in some cases. Later that night, the election seemed to be going in favor for Mr. Donald Trump.…

As a slightly older nontraditional student, my past life experiences have greatly shaped my ambition to want to major in a STEM related field as well as the need for a more global perspective. Last year, I transferred into Arcadia University from a Community College and decided it was time I finish my studies after taking care of a family member. After participating in one of Arcadia’s preview programs abroad, I developed a whole new appreciation for travel and how life experience can significantly mold a person’s outlook. I want to be able to take the time to study abroad and immerse myself in an academic setting of my choosing, since I’d never had that opportunity in the past. I feel the experience to study abroad is imperative to developing good cultural competency skills, which in the field of STEM is almost always a must.…

As a current senior in High School, it is becoming the time that I start applying for colleges, and making decisions for my life after I get out of High School. With that being said, most colleges expect potential students to write a personal statement essay, describing why he/she would make a good student for their school. In a personal statement letter or essay, students write about their achievements in school, and why the said student would make a good addition to the school they are applying for. Colleges are interested in building a campus that is diverse, and has all sorts of different students to create the best learning experience possible.
