Personal Statement: Mrs. Shue As A Role Model

Decent Essays
My hero doesn't wear a cape or have a shield, instead she wears a crown and a pink feather boa. My hero, Mrs. Shue, is my definition for a role model. She is always positive, happy, and helpful. Mrs. Shue is someone that brings out the good in everyone, and I feel as if she helps me be more positive. I am nominating Mrs. Shue because she is who I strive to be like everyday and in the future. I look up to her, and because I do, she is my example of how to act, treat others, and live my life. I have always wanted to be a teacher when I am older, but haven't been sure of what subject. So when I got to 7th grade and had Mrs. Shue , I decided then and there that I wanted to teach Social Studies. I want to be a teacher like Mrs. Shue because she makes the class fun and it seems like we don't …show more content…
Shue sees what's possible, even if it's not right in front of her. She has given us students so many amazing opportunities throughout this year. For example, we built catapults and were in the Salisbury Post, we had the very first RSS Holocaust and World War II Humanities Conference because of her. That event was a HUGE moment in both my and her life. We were also in the Salisbury Post for that. Mrs. Shue helps me with furthering my education, but that's not all she has done for me. There are times when she helps me continue to believe in myself, and she helps me see the positive in almost all situations. She has just overall pushed me to be a better person. I admire her because of her attitude towards life, but also because of her ability to remain calm and not show that she is stressed (if she even is), and that is something I struggle with. In class there may be students who annoy her, I know there are, but she doesn't let that get in the way of her optimism. I get very stressed about the littlest things not being perfect like my grades or my score on a test. But being around Mrs. Shue kind of releases that stress and I can just relax and be

My Path to Literacy For a very long time writing and reading was a huge struggle for me. I was one of those students who was very intelligent, but disliked reading tremendously and was often told, “You write the way you talk”. The older I grew the more I realized that my struggles with writing was due to my lack of reading. I was aware of my issues but because it became a part of my writing habits it was hard to adapt to anything different. I wanted to be like everyone else and be a good authentic and productive writer but it seemed almost impossible.…

Yaeko “Yae” Yamamoto Niijima is not very well known. She is not known here in the western world and she is known barely in her home country of Japan. This, to me, is a sad thing because Yae is one of the most remarkable women I have ever heard about. The daughter of a samurai, a teacher, a nurse and a warrior Yae should be better known than she is because her tale is one of strength, determination, grief, and forgiveness. A woman who took no guff and one that is finally being recognized for what she did.…

Unlike most people, who change their mind on the career they want, I knew from the start that I wanted to be a teacher. I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was young because I had a teacher that I had a close relationship with and made me love school.
