For the duration of the autobiography, I am Malala, by Malala Yousafzai; Ziauddin Yousafzai shows verifiable qualities of what most would believe to be a true hero. Although many believe the hero to be the primary protagonist of the biography, Malala, her father Ziauddin shows many more characteristics such as selflessness, wisdom, and intelligence. Ziauddin shows his heroic quality by standing up for what he believes is right and showing no concern to what his higher authority and the outside world is pronouncing. The reader could infer this by his actions of voicing his opinion in public (page 144) to his decision to keep running his school (page 95) no matter what consequences he may face. As Ziauddin attempts to keep his family safe as well as do what’s best for his country, he makes decisions, rebels against the law, and most of all, fights for what is right.…

It is often said that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Even as this holds true throughout history, power and more specifically, exerting power over others is necessary for any society to exist. Exerting dominance, leadership and power are animalistic instincts that are necessary to maintain the order of organisms co-existing. Humans, as advanced organisms, face the unique challenge of morality and maintaining justice within societies that have had a history of being unjust because they are undeniably and unchangeably power based. This power imbalance leads directly to inequality and systemic oppression such as racism and sexism.…

Tennessee William’s A Streetcar Named Desire centers on Blanche Dubois, a fading Southern belle from Laurel, Mississippi, who comes to stay with her younger sister Stella and husband Stanley Kowalski in New Orleans. Blanche is a fragile woman who constantly lives in her fantasy world to protect herself against outside threats and her own insecurities. She uses these fantasies to create an illusion to convince not only others, but herself that she is still young, admired and of social standing. In reality, Blanche is the exact opposite; middle aged, rejected and penniless. Blanche’s illusions contribute to the work as a whole by giving herself hope, acting as a coping mechanism by providing an escape from harsh realities, and contrasting with…

“The FCC Won’t Let Sarah Be:” A Research paper on Sarah Jones Vs. The FCC Sarah Jones is an American Playwright, actress, and poet. In 2001 she wrote and preformed her first song “Your Revolution,” which is a critique of Hip-Hop pop culture by parodying famous artists’ offensive lyrics; however, the FCC pulled her song because they felt it was “indecent.” My research is on the reason why the FCC denied Jones’ song to be play, and how their reasoning is the point that she was trying to make, regarding how women are portrayed in Hip-Hop pop culture. Jones was born on November 29, 1973 in Baltimore, Maryland and comes from a multicultural background, her father is African American and her mother half Caucasian and Caribbean.…
