Personal Statement: Is The Sport Of Basketball For A Better Life

The sport of basketball has drawn a great amount of interest to me.It creates opptunity for a better life and teaches some very good life lessons. Basketball is a tool to help one succeed in life. Furthermore, I have received an internship with Sean Hardeman in the summer of 2016.He is a basketball trainer that trains NBA players. I helped him with the development with Corey Joseph(Toronto Raptors) and Quinn Cook(Duke). I had a great opportunity to meet and attend camps of some premier college basketball teams(Texas,Texas A&M,Baylor).We also helped with the USA Basketball 17u team. I also had a chance to watch the practices and see how they operate. I created many relationships with coaches and players throughout this internship.I would say that after college, I have a foot in the door with coaching at the Division 1 level.However, most importantly, we have helped the poor and underprivileged kids stay off the streets through the world of basketball. …show more content…
I would like to help kids stay off the streets and develop their skills in basketball.I believe that the reason why underprivileged kids doesn’t succeed in life is because they don’t have the correct guidance. I’ve seen Sean Hardeman guide kids to a college scholarship and degree. Therefore, I want to carry the tradition of guiding underprivileged kids on the road to becoming exceptional student athletes. Being from Port Arthur,Texas, I’ve seen the kids I grew up with ended up in prison or dead before the age of 18. It’s really heartbreaking because these kids are very good people and has the talent to go to college on a scholarship.Also,the players can’t even stay on the team long enough to receive college recognition.However, with the right guidance, they’ll escape the crime and corruption they grew up
