Personal Statement: Instructional Practice In Education

Improved Essays
I have always known I wanted to become a teacher. When I was in school, if I understood the lesson the teacher was presenting, I would help my fellow classmates. It made me happy that I got to instruct them and made a difference. In high school, I was selected to participate in an elective called IPIE (Instructional Practice in Education.) I went over to the nearby elementary school, and assisted the teacher. I planned a lesson and then my teacher observed me instructing the class. In the lesson, I taught a Rodeo matching game with Pre- K. I would show the students a card and they would match the card up to the other card. If the card did match, I gave the students positive reinforcement. In the Pre-k class I showed a girl names Riley log …show more content…
I was the Vice President and was the oldest girl there. I would guide and mentor the younger girls when they worked on planning the events. I earned my Girl Scout Silver award and Gold award. I spent time planning and leading other people. For my Silver award, I planned an end of summer dance for children that had special needs. I gave out several books as a gift to each guest because I was promoting literacy. For my Gold award, I led a book club called the Next Chapter Book Club. It was for people that had Down Syndrome. During the Next Chapter Book Club meetings, the members voted to choose the book to read. When one of the Down Syndrome kids needed help with a word, I would take charge and tell them what it is and help them sound it out. I also sent out weekly emails or texts to remind everyone about each meeting. Another organization I still volunteer with is Special Olympics. I started volunteering in the 6th grade. I am now depended on as support staff helping the athletes. I will be their Communications Director when the team goes to State Games in Texas, Arlington. I will be chaperoning the girls on the

Ever since I was a child, I knew that I wanted to be a teacher. Until recently, I did not know that I wanted to be a music teacher. When I was little, I loved helping my friends through hard work or teaching them how to do something. In the fifth grade, I started to play my first instrument, the trombone. I instantly fell in love with how fun it was to learn a new piece of music and the joy of correctly playing a hard composition.…

I took notes of what the teacher did to prepare for the arrival of the student.…

Most people change their career decisions multiple times before they actually pick a final job, but I never had an interest in anything other than being a teacher. I have always connected with younger kids over high school or middle school children, which is why I chose to major in Early Childhood Education. I believe that teachers have the ability not only change the world, but improve it. I want to become a teacher because seeing that light bulb go off and seeing the looks on the student’s faces when they get a problem is a great feeling. Many kids are ignored at home or even bullied at home and I want to make all those children feel wanted and to know that someone is there for them and truly does care about them.…

My collegiate career by no means once encompassed becoming a teacher, I just appreciated researching and working in the laboratory, but I recognize that something was missing I didn’t know it at the time. My inspiration for being an educator came from the time I’ve spent in my church, I was predisposed by leading a bible study. I had up to that time had worked as an assistant with children’s pastor and director and been volunteering the year prior. I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I played “school” with my siblings, dolls and friends quite often. A huge part of my story is the fact that I was raised in Taiwan from the age of two until I came to the States for college. In Taiwan, the ability to speak English is extremely sought after. When I was in 6th grade, some of my Taiwanese neighbors asked me to teach English to their kids who were about my age.…

Possibly the biggest factor in my decision to be a teacher was my fifth-grade teacher, Mr. Shaw. He was my teacher at such a critical point in my life. I was 11 years old learning how the world worked and trying to discover who I was. Mr. Shaw quickly became a mentor for all twenty-nine of us in the class and didn’t just teach us math or science but life lessons. I still can imagine his loud voice coming from the back of the classroom as he taught us to be successful in life or how words can affect people in both positive and negative ways.…

The first time I felt the spark of desire to teach was when I was ten years old, and my class had to give a presentation on what we wanted to be when we grew up. I remember my teacher asking me after my presentation why I wanted to be an educator, and I simply shrugged and said I had a feeling it was something I should do. There was no rhyme or reason to why I had felt this need, only a simple thought towards my future that most children have. This thought stayed in the back of my mind for years to come, and whenever someone asked me what I wanted to be, I gave the same answer, “I want to be a teacher.” The only questions that remained and continued to go unanswered for years were what grade would I teach and what subject?…
