Influential Life Experiences
Life experiences are simply lessons from the Lord that shape us and make us uniquely us. I write this as a middle-aged military veteran, businessman, father, and husband. The lessons of the Lord are at work in my life and will positively influence my academic career. Through epic failures, tremendous successes, and a myriad of relationships, I’m prepared to not only succeed at Colorado Christian University but to launch a new beginning that will in-turn fulfill my calling to better serve the Lord and my community.
My life is riddled with failures. In particular, I failed financially and lost everything during the Great
Recession. My business revenues were cut

Adolescence is the time for humans to find themselves and gain the skills that help guide who they will be in life. It is also when most people struggle with alienation. Two Asian-American boys experienced these feelings in distinctive ways. In Brian Kim’s “Arm Wrestling with Grandfather” and Shanlon Wu’s “In Search for Bruce Lee’s Grave”, themes of loneliness and role models present the reader with a unique basis for comparison and contrast.…

Shalom everyone, my name is David. I am follower of Yeshua Messiah, a husband and father, Bible teacher, theological insurgent, author, blogger and a recovering Christian. When I was a licensed denominational preacher, Yahweh opened my eyes. In clear sight, I saw the idolatry and bad theology that plagues Christianity. So I left Babylon.…

My Junior Year I raised an American Brahman Steer for the FFA Club. American Brahmans are known for being an aggressive breed, difficult to break in, and very skittish, as mine was. Last year was my first year to show a steer. The past three years I showed Duroc hogs, and have gotten first in my class numerous of times. It was a very drastic change, because hogs are easier to tame and handle.…

People everywhere go through various experiences in their lives. Whether these experiences are big or small, they affect us in some way. The results of these experiences can be good or bad, or a little bit of both, but either way they shape our lives. The biggest life experience I’ve ever gone through is my move to California. Although this only happened about a year ago, it was a huge change for me because I left so much behind for an unknown future.…

Life-changing experiences, or turning points, often cause difficulty to the person who is facing them. This thought is explored in the text,” The Father of Chinese Aviation,” by Rebecca Maksel, the autobiography Warriors Don’t Cry written by Melba Pattillo Beals, and the narrative I Never Had it Made by Jackie Robinson. Feng Ru, The first Chinese Aviator, Melba Pattillo Beals, one of the first black children to go to a white school, and Jackie Robinson, the first black MLB player, have all faced life-changing experiences and, in doing so, have affected their own countries gravely. Jackie Robinson was the first, of his race, to play in major league baseball. Jackie was asked to join a major league team, the Brooklyn Dodgers, and, even though…

I am interested in teaching at Breakthrough as a Teaching Fellow this summer because Breakthrough is where I discovered my passion. Working with the students as a volunteer last summer, and as a teacher during the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 school-year program, was something I looked forward to every day as I got to know each of our special students. I discovered that working with kids, who often say exactly what they are thinking and choose to find joy and positivity in all aspects of life, was something I absolutely love and something that makes me truly happy. It is difficult to convey the joy and comfort I find in teaching, and how much I value the opportunity to change a child's life for the better by offering the support they may not have…

Graduation hallmarks a time of genuine but, scholastic reflection of dynamic memories, while personal goals dictate achievements, spiritual growth, and a legacy left for younger generations to follow. Shorter University fosters the opportunity to receive a Christ-centered education while allowing students to remain focused on pursuing their relationship with God. As an exuberant high-school senior, I reside with my mother, younger sister, and my troublesome pet cat, Cally, and I enjoy working part-time at Marco’s Pizza. My arduous pursuits consist of playing the clarinet, writing poetry, learning the art of the French language, and volunteering throughout the community. Apart from earning a degree in accounting at Shorter University, my personal goals, that I will accomplish by graduation, range not only - from harnessing a deeper relationship with God as I continue to fulfill his call to share the gospel - but also, to developing new, yet immutable friendships, while cultivating my greatest contribution: my desire to publish my writing to glorify God.…

“Come with me to the welfare office or there won’t be any food for the month,” my mom vocalized to me. Since the day I was born, my family has been surviving on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, better known as Food Stamps and at times, received Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). It was Fall Quarter of 2013 when I attended SCC. With no solid goal of what I wanted to do in life, I completed courses with average and bad grades. This was mainly caused by the lack of focus I had because of my attention to provide for my family.…

For my influential person essay, I decided to write how my aunt Sarah impacted my life. When I first started prewriting for this essay, I was struggling on who I would write about. I was not fond on writing about my parents because I thought that would have been cliche. I think that choosing Sarah was a good decision because I really overlooked her and how she had helped me. By writing this essay I have realized that she is definitely a person that I would inspire to be.…

    A. Autobiographical Statement My mother was the first and only person in her family to graduate from college, which has always been an inspiration to me. She was an abused wife on food stamps, raising two children on her own while my father was incarcerated. I will always remember when she told me that life was like a lotus flower; we may start by growing in the mud but each day we can choose to bloom above the water into a beautiful flower. It was then that I understood my childhood was not my choice, but how I choose to live the rest of my life was. My mother never wavered in her faith that if I wanted to do something in my life the only thing that could hold me back was myself.…

I believe that California Baptist University is the door to such an opportunity. At CBU I will pursue my gifts in music, create relationships that will sow great seeds, and grow deeper in my knowledge of God. Firstly, I hope to be a part of the School of Music at CBU because of my experience and skills in music and the music industry. I am in the Guitar Ensemble at Riverside City College, taking private lessons in guitar and voice with my instructor in classical, jazz, pop, and many other genres.…
