Personal Statement In High School

Improved Essays
Personal statements are well known to many young adults in high school and older. Mainly because a personal statement is an important aspect of your high school career in order to be accepted to the college you would like to attend in the future. When I became a high school senior, I didn’t know what to do, what to write, or where to even begin with the two essays. I was lost and confused. I strongly believe that learning how to write and create my personal statement is extremely significant to me because it taught me how to be very detailed, yet short and straight to the point, speak with emotions without being so overly dramatic, and lastly, it taught me how to write a well structured essay. Everyone always mentions how important it is to write your personal statement no matter if it was your parents, friends, or teachers. I never believed that it would be difficult until I read the prompts. I remember staring blankly at my computer just waiting for an idea to come to me because I never thought that my life would be interesting to tell others. However, I never realized that telling my life story in a short essay influenced me to become a better writer. I may …show more content…

Till this day, I still use the same techniques of writing when creating an essay regardless the challenge I will have to face. Whether it’s a research essay, persuasive essay, or whatever the case may be, I know for a fact that I am ready because the obstacles that I have faced while writing a personal statement improved my writing skills. As my senior year was coming to an end, my excitement to start a new chapter in my life awaits as I prepare myself even more for subjects that are not my strongest such as English to improve more and more as I learn through many different writing

Reflecting on the college application process, I noticed that the college essays were stressed very highly, but all the prompts ask for the same thing. Whether they are asking for an eventful moment, your passion, a hobby, or a chosen outsourced prompt, many students seem to convey the same messages in their essays. To get around this, one must ask a more inconspicuous prompt where the student’s character shows through their unique ideas. A prompt that is universal, conveys a meaning, and is always answered uniquely must ask for a narrative: Write a creative story. Walking through the woods one night, Agatha Johansson could not wait to arrive at her friend’s house.…

If a politician's autobiography is a depiction of his / hers the foreseeing mind and extraordinary political life, if an abolitionist's autobiography is a personal recountal of their generosity and fraternity in addition to his / hers advanced thinking, then my personal narrative essay would be words and phrases that tells what kind of person I am, no matter this thing would make me embarrassed or not. There are two major phases of my life after I have consciousness and basic cognition to the world. The first phase is called "the era of ignorance and blindness". Like most children, I neither have the intelligence to solve problems quickly and precisely without assistance, nor being patient enough to acquire the ways to be erudite.…

This semester I have learned a great deal from Professor Beach, especially in regards to argumentative essays. He has taught how to get the proper evidence, facts, and to stay on point and remain focused. But most importantly he has taught me that argumentative essays must have a valid argument. Before I took Professor Beach’s course, when I saw commercials, advertisements, or the news, I would believe them without doing the proper research. Beach has taught me to see whether or not people are actually telling the truth or using fallacies.…

I’ve experienced many hardships when dealing with writing assignments, but the worst would have to be my Senior Portfolio. After starting the assignment, I learned very quickly that the assignment was going to be the easy compared to gathering all the information needed about myself. I was required to create multiple different essays that consisted of my post-high school plan and a reflective essay. It seemed easy to write essays on myself, but until I was required to write it all down, I never realized how many experiences contribute into making me who I am today. Even though I find it as the most challenging writing assignment, I also see it as the best learning experience to show who I am and how I plan my future.…

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

I am a student at Columbus State Community College. In my English class, I have written several different types of essays and have found myself moving forward as a developing writer with less fear. The positive and reflective class activities, and instructions have really motivated me to believe that I can conquer the quest of freely expressing myself on paper in whichever form of expression that is required. In the past, I have dreaded writing assignments due to me dropping out of school early on in the 9th grade, and then having children at a young age.…

    Essay On My Writing Style

    • 3 Pages

As I look back to the writing I have done the past couple of years the first things I think of are rushed deadlines, automated essay prompts and constant cramming. Throughout my high school years the focus of writing assignments shifted from a method of self expression to a type of formula needed to pass many of the Advanced Placement exams. Although I did enjoy the freedom writing gave in my younger years when I was still given an opportunity to voice my thoughts and opinions, I have not grown fond of the writing style imposed upon me during my later high school years. The assignments were regurgitated College Board prompts given to me and my classmates by a teacher trying to prepare us for an exam that would not just reflect on us, but ultimately brand their reputation as a teacher. The goal of writing was neither to properly express and communicate with the world, nor was it to simply become better writers for our own benefit; it was to learn the formula in order to do well on a single exam.…

All throughout school you have to write and from personal experience not a lot of my classmates enjoy this. We all do a unanimous sigh and then try to fudge some paper the teacher wants us to write. This was easy to do up until about 11th grade. In 11th grade we had the SAT-the SAT WILL be the biggest waste of your life. We had to do so many practice essays for that and they were graded on the SAT scale and they were graded by a computer.…

in my first essay I had wrote about my experience working on my high schools Dance Marathon. it was easier for me to write about my first essay because sit was about me and figuring out what I wanted to do with my life.with writing about this event I had started from the start and then skipped into the later stages of putting the event together, then talking about the event. I didn’t find anything about myself in this essay because of the fact that I had already wrote about this in high school. in my second essay I had wrote about whether or not heading should be allowed in soccer. I chose to write about this because soccer has played a big part in my life so finding something about soccer to argue was easy for me.…

I used to think the only good way to write a sentence was to make sure it was long and full of detail, but through peer review, I learned the beauty of a simple sentence. I realized that you don’t need to write a long complex sentence to make a statement; and that a short, simple sentence can provide even more of an impact on the reader than a long sentence. I also discovered that my strength in writing essays is to ensure that I choose a subject I am passionate about the topic. All of my best writing stems from topics that matter a lot to me and are important for me to talk about. I’ve found out that the most difficult part for me is thoroughly explaining my thought.…
