Teaching provides one the chance to mentor students in areas outside the scope of a classroom whether through coaching a sport or sponsoring a club. Mostly, teachers have the chance each day to make a lasting impression on someone else. Teachers have the opportunity to be strong, positive influences on 100s of students over the course of a career. Not many professions provide that.” (“Why do I want to teach?”…
In the article entitled “How Teachers Learn: How Teachers Lead Teachers” by Jason Margolis explains how teachers should teach teachers. First Margolis talks about teachers using humor in a training for other teachers. Margolis states that teachers need to show that they still want to be a learner. The author explains teachers can tend to use amusement in serious moments. The Jason Margolis explains that teachers used their real opinion about other teaching skills.…
Dear P&P Class Members: Previously I attended Juniata College in Pennsylvania where I received a BA in General History, Art History, and Museum Studies. My academic focus was not only on exhibition making and design but also WWII and pre-Impressionistic art. While at Juniata, I interned at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. where I learned the vast intricacies of the inner museum workings. Most of my teaching opportunities and experiences have happened outside of a traditional classroom and learning environment. From one-on-one to groups, my teaching has been less on the academic side and more on the life skills side ranging from students half my age to three times my age.…
During my experience in an ESL class I saw many of our course objectives come to life. The program was rather small but I witnessed many ways the teacher adjust lessons to meet the needs of students who are still learning english. During my visit I saw many different scaffolding that helped the students during different assignments and lessons. In class we learned how important scaffolding is in classroom with Ells. For a reading assignments the teacher used a tchart so that information can be organized to the learners.…
This week I have a range of thoughts on my own media use, all spurred by the Advanced Placement (AP) English Literature conference I am currently attending. This week we’ve discussed a range of topics - Should Bob Dylan have won the Nobel? How can computer programs help children? What is gained by handwriting vs. typing? - and based on these topics, this post will take on a diverse nature in an attempt to capture my thoughts. First, I am so thankful for the Internet.…
Imagine a world in which your voice could not be heard or a world where no one understood the language that you spoke. Would you be able to communicate your wants, needs, and thoughts to others? Many people on the Autism spectrum struggle with these issues every day and are often misunderstood because of their difficulty with communication and social interaction. Autism is a complex developmental disorder that affects 1 in 88 children during the first three years of their lives. Faced with the challenge of being heard, many are forced to find alternative ways to communicate because one cannot not communicate.…
With the help of the works of three already successful educators, I will construct the environment that I wish to create when I am in the role of educator myself. The first step to establishing a healthy learning environment is to create a strong student-teacher bond. Caring about a student 's well-being inclines them to work harder towards their final grades. Thunder-McGuire focuses on the understanding of one student and creates a bond. Temple Grandin taught me more about the importance of hands-on learning experiences.…
It is helpful for student-teachers to experiment their learning while they are in their teacher education programme. It is also helpful for in-service teachers to experiment their teaching, develop new skills, and expand their professional repertoire. He indicated that teaching practice is another important context for student-teachers to develop their education experientially in the context of real classrooms where they are given chances to put the theoretical inputs into practice. For in-service teachers, this experiential learning happens in their actual teaching in their own classrooms. These contexts involve demonstrations and observations which are subject to reflection unlike the demonstrations and observations in the craft model in which case are imitative in their nature.…
Thus, I am looking forward to identifying which teaching methods I will work with best. I understand that my teaching style will affect the children’s learning and thus, I aim to use a variety of teaching techniques in order to meet the needs of all…
1.(i) Discuss the theory behind teaching skills and(ii) examine how these skills were visible in the classroom you observed. (iii) Discuss one example of how you hope to develop as a teacher from your observations in this area? (1100 words) Must refer to lecture notes and readings “Teaching skills can be defined as discrete and coherent activities by teachers which foster pupil learning”.…
Another new idea I learned is how knowledgeable teachers are. They need to have knowledge to understand the curriculum, knowledge of their students and their learning abilities, knowledge to plan lessons that engage students, knowledge to be able to communicate and think well, and knowledge in managing a classroom. I did not realize the great deal of skills and actions that a teacher has to take in order to be a great…
A classroom’s community and environment is what allows students to either learn successfully or unsuccessfully. If the environment is not welcoming, safe, and encouraging a student’s basic needs will not be met and their academic success will suffer consequently. I aspire to create a classroom environment that exudes creativity, safety, equity, and community. In order to create a collaborative learning environment, as I desire to, I must also adhere to learning differences of students and the uniqueness of my students’ development patterns. The following paper will discuss my understanding of how different students progress, how I will address the range of learning preferences and cultures, as well as how I will use that knowledge to create a collaborative learning environment.…
