In high school, I joined Key Club, where I sold flowers for powder puff, volunteered at my elementary school’s Trunk or Treat, and helped with the book and coat drive. Throughout high school, I have been involved in many activities. I started off with the STEM academy in my high school. In the STEM academy, we held special events that teach people, especially kids, about new experiments and science-related careers. I helped out the STEM academy by explaining people about the experiments, the purpose behind the experiments and cleaned or organized lab equipment. I was a part of the STEM academy for approximately three years in high school and I really enjoyed it because I knew I could make a difference in my community.…

Freshman year of high school, I was ecstatic. Yes, being shoved in hallways and three minutes late to every class because of overpopulation everyday sucked, but I was finally a high schooler. Soon, I learned that rumors about being stuffed in a locker was the least of my worries. I was compelled to make life changing decisions about my future and whether or not I wanted to go to college. My sister, Amber, conceived my nephew, Trey, at 16 during her sophomore year, resulting in her flunking out of high school, therefore, I did not have anyone to forewarn me or even give me a fairytale.…

Often times, I've been dismissed in society just because of my cultural background, however, it will not determine my future- the school has made me passionate and grateful for everything I've received. School itself has made me excel, discover colleges, and expand my interests. My hard work has paid off as my grades led me straight to the group the top-performing students, especially in mathematics and science. During my school years, I have been praised for my hard work for either helping teach other students, managing the classroom and even recommending ways to improve the class itself. High school brought on difficult challenges, but when I experienced Advanced Placement, it changed my whole perspective, and with my first score it inspired me to take more AP classes regardless of the work effort, even the teacher…

Years of tragedy and the complex flaws within human nature have told us over and over again that unless we recognize our mistakes and continue to move forward from that, “those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it” as expressed by George Santayana. I am extremely grateful to have the possibility to witness myself the anniversary and commemoration of such an important and benchmark historic event for the hundredth anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, and if given the chance- it would be a memorable experience I would never, ever forget. Our intricate nature as human beings comes as a double edged sword- the goodness, morality and kindness we extend to one another, and the cruelty, hypocrisy and barbarism as we destroy…

Through my experience, my freshman and sophomore years as a musician were terrifying. On top of the shock of the new atmosphere at school, I had to play my instrument with and in front of others, which was quite a stretch for me at the time. I would always beat myself up about minute mistakes I had glorified during rehearsals, playing tests, and especially auditions. However, after I did not make an Illinois Allstate ensemble my junior year, my approach to these nerve-wracking situations completely changed. Instead of thinking failing negatively, those uncomfortable experiences actually made me improve as I had taken more auditions.…

What have you done to make your school or your community a better place? 370 “With the world so set on tearing itself apart, it don 't seem like such a bad thing to me to want to put a little bit of it back together.” This quote from the recent film Hacksaw Ridge embodies my sentiment that brightening up someone’s day is the best feeling in the world for me. This desire to help others prompted me to volunteer for two years at UCLA hospital to help transport patients. Hospital patients often deal with severe pain and sometimes loneliness, and I knew that giving some of my time could improve their moods and outlooks.…
