Personal Statement: Hancock College Prep

Hancock College Prep has always been like a second home to me. The school evokes a positive vibe to the staff, teachers, and staff. I love the way my teachers motivate me to do my very best at school every day. My teachers have always pushed me to live up to my full potential and it’s something I appreciate a lot because without them I wouldn’t be able to have an open mindset to new ideas and challenges. I have proven that I am an exceptional student through my grades, leadership skills, and the after school activities that I am involved in. Taking rigorous classes since my freshman year has shaped me into the person I am today. I am now able to accept tough challenges and overcome them through perseverance.

Five of my cousins have attended Archbishop Williams High School and my grandmother and her sister also attended Archbishop Williams High School. They all have nothing but positive feedback about the school and it’s environment. They all went on to exceptional colleges after Archbishop Williams High School. The sciences have been central to my life ever since I was a child. My mother is a veterinarian and my father a mechanical engineer. Both of my parents attended Tuskegee University and always pushed for me to consider HBCU’s for my education. STEM careers and education are promoted heavily in Huntsville, my hometown, as major tech companies and government entities such as NASA and Missile Defense are located there. I ventured out my senior year and took courses dealing with social sciences, both in my high school and at a nearby university.…

Dear, Point Pleasant Beach High School I would like to thank Beach's program for touring me around the school during the open house and Dr. Grosshandler for taking the time out of his day to discuss my possible future with Point Pleasant Beach and its amazing academic program. Beach has gained a reputation of producing intelligent students and sending them off to college. Being considered for a program with such a productive system brings a monumental amount of joy to me and my family. Over the course of this school year, I have begun to realize the difference between my old school, Point Pleasant Boro, and my new school, Spring Lake Heights. Heights has a smaller population which benefits the students for multiple reasons.…

Lee Early College (LEC) has been in my thoughts ever since my older sister Payton has attended there. My sister and I are very close; she has taught me so much about life and school. I would first like to thank Frostburg State University for accepting me in their institution and giving me the chance to further my education after my high school scholar years. I have enjoyed my time at Frostburg State University and with hard work I have been able to make the dean’s list and be accepted in the Honors program during the first semester of my freshman year. I hope to continue to work even harder during the second semester and throughout my school career. As a small university, Frostburg has enabled me to benefit from many things, such as the small size classes. Now that I have gotten used to college and life on campus, I believe it is time to continue to push myself to work harder and to attend an institution where I could be academically challenged and can be surrounded by many people who share my profession.…

Today, June 18th, 2017, marks the last day of my first week of college at Paul Quinn College and I am proud to say, “I survived”. Committing to Paul Quinn was a really big decision for me because this school is a 17 hour drive away from my home in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. I was afraid that I might get homesick or that I would not have the support of my family because I would be so far away from home. Soon, after visiting the Dallas campus, I realized that Paul Quinn was the school for me. This is the school where I will grow as an individual and I have come to that realization in my first week of college through the many conversations with upperclassmen, faculty, alumni and summer bridge students.…

While at a Community College, I have had time to grow and mature into a finer young adult than I came out of High School. I learned to live on my own and take care of myself, while continuing to acquire training and education. It was also a time I took to figure who I am and who I want to be. With that in mind, I have found that I desire to continue growing at a different institution. While I have learned a significant amount of things in my current college and enjoyed every minute of it, I will be graduating from its program soon and wish to explore opportunities elsewhere.…

As I move forward in my career as an educational leader, my aspiration is to emulate the characteristics of a successful leader. Success in education can be measured every day in every school when the beliefs of the leader are reflected in the students and the staff. I aspire to be an innovative leader that motivates people to be courageous and open-minded to tackle the hard tasks. Furthermore, I hope to be a transformative leader that becomes a role-model to their peers by doing rather than saying. My leadership philosophy is one that is rooted in the strong belief that it must be a continuous quest to motivate all students to become critical thinkers, effective communicators, and lifelong learners, while possessing outstanding character. This includes assisting students with discovering their talents and interests, therefore developing a love of learning, while developing into ethical, productive citizens. Accomplishing this requires a leader who is knowledgeable in pedagogy and curriculum, including the use of data and current assessments to enhance instruction, and who possesses outstanding communication skills, the ability to manage an operation’s resources effectively, promotes collaboration and teamwork, and is passionate and committed to helping students learn. I believe that my interpersonal skills will be my biggest strength as an educational leader. Through frequent, honest communication, and my enthusiasm for the subject, I will demonstrate understanding and compassion for those around me, therefore building trusting relationships.…
