Studying Bachelor of Nutrition Science at St Mary’s University was an excellent opportunity to obtain complex and specialised knowledge of human nutrition, focusing on the scientific evidence for the relationships between nutrition, health and disease. The course provided strong foundations of biochemistry and clinical nutrition, which are subjects of my particular interest. Completion the clinical nutrition module with an outstanding overall mark, 84%, strengthened my wish to further develop my knowledge in this area, and to apply my theoretical background in practice. It is a modification of a standard diet and depending on a patient’s health status it is modified for nutrients, texture, and food allergies and intolerances. Knowledge of the specifications for therapeutic diets, such as type and quantities of foods that are suitable for a patient, is essential when assisting patients with meal selection. Gaining a 4-year experience in customer service was a great journey for me to become a self-confident and a relaxed individual when talking with other people. I have worked within a team which included over 30 members of staff, and represented a number of different nationalities. During busy shifts, in order to provide smooth and a high standard customer service, it was necessary to effectively communicate with other staff members, including management team, chefs, waiters and other bartenders. Due to the nature of the job, it was often necessary to interact with individuals who were under the influence of alcohol or were performing aggressive behaviours.
