I have played volleyball ever since I can remember. I have played club, school, JV, Varsity, nationally, internationally, and have spent more hours than I can count dedicated to volleyball. My passion for the sport has given me so many special attributes. Being on a team my whole life has given me collaborative abilities where I have become a reliable and supportive teammate. I have been the captain of my club teams every year since I began. This role of leadership has extended beyond my athletics and allowed me recognize my capabilities of managing and leading a group. I have attended 5 National Championship competitions, of which I have earned a silver medal. I have also had the opportunity to play beach volleyball nationally and internationally. …show more content…
My best international finish was 10th. The high level of competition in my volleyball career has enabled to gain sportsmanship, leadership, and dedication. I spent a vast majority of my life on the court; my intense competition experiences are something unique to me that hardly any athlete has the opportunity to compete similarly, and I wouldn't trade any of my time spent playing the sports I love. Though I have such an intense passion and love for volleyball, my interest in the University of Chicago is greater. I have had many opportunities for scholarships and and commitments to play Division 1 volleyball at other schools, but no other college compares to the opportunities that University of Chicago has to offer. I spent all of this time sure I would play collegiate volleyball, but my top priority of my collegiate education comes to the academics, opportunities, and the preparation side of the school for a JD degree. Sports will always come second to my education. I decided to put my recruiting on hold in order to prioritize my education, therefore University of Chicago, the best school in the country, and the best school for …show more content…
I am hoping to one day become a sports agent and put the many hours I spent on the court toward my career goals. Chicago offers the law opportunity that I not only want, but need. Chicago provides their prospective lawyers a number of unmatchable programs. This variety of Pre-Law opportunity at Chicago is the reason I chose Chicago over volleyball. Chicago offers what any future lawyer desires. The UChicago Careers in Law will provide all of the experience that a prospective lawyer will value when considering a JD degree. The opportunities that University of Chicago offers even before graduate school is how the students find the right fit for their specific law path, and this is exactly what I desire in an undergraduate experience. Coming from a family of lawyers, I have seen firsthand the work and requirements of a lawyer, but nothing I have witnessed outside of closed doors will compare to the opportunities that Chicago has to offer. Chicago provides its undergraduate potential lawyers with one-on-one advising, guest speakers, and a countless number of internship opportunities. Pursuing a career in law may seem daunting, but Chicago provides all of the resources and opportunities that will accentuate an undergraduate experience and uncover whether law is the right fit. I am hoping to spend my first four years of college at University of Chicago in

Students that have been privileged with an athletic scholarship to play in collegiate sports have to understand that it is not a profession but a linkage to develop contacts with influencers and gatekeepers that will impact their future success into the national leagues or other areas of interest. These student athletes should not be concerned with receiving an annual salary or monthly stipend but focused on the most important component of obtaining a higher education which is to achieve academic success in a sound environment and develop professional skills to become an informed, efficient graduate and integrating those educational experiences into their profession as they make the transition after graduation. Any athletic student given…

Over the years I have gained a true passion for sports. It is something I do everyday. Without sports I am in a nonstop cycle of boredom. Now, I didn’t just magically pick up a baseball one day threw it around. I had to learn and practice consistently or I would not excel at any sport.…

I worked a part time job as a supermarket manager in order to play for my first year of AAU volleyball, where other players have been playing for several years. My coach and I created an NCSA page for college coaches to see me play and hopefully be recruited, and I received an email from HFC, a couple weeks later and I came to an open gym. Long story short, the coach offered me a scholarship to come play for Henry Ford. If someone were to ask me four years ago if I thought this was possible, I would’ve said no. I transformed from the Arab bench…

From the day I stepped on campus at Bryant University I knew there was something special about this place. This place wasn’t like anything I’d ever experienced before. Growing up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, I attended a large public high school, with over 1,000 kids in my class. Based on my experience in a large high school, I assumed the only logical progression for me was to attend a large public state university. I assumed I would join all of my high school best friends at one of the state schools.…

When you feel as passionate as I do for a sport you prefer to be playing the game as often as possible. This in most cases means playing a select or club season in the off season of high school. Little would you know that playing the same sport in two different environments could possibly change your view on the sport entirely. For me volleyball is the game I feel a passionate love for, that is why I chose to play club and high school volleyball. Club volleyball's environment and competitiveness make a player a better athlete than high school, making club volleyball better.…

At five years old, dirt clouds that formed when sliding into home plate sparked my passion for baseball. Later, a scholarship to Berkeley for baseball informed my college experience with the dedication required by such a program often reflected in my grades and coursework selections. I have not had a formal math course since high school. Unquestionably, the sport provided amazing experiences all over the world, including Japan for the World Baseball Games and in Texas as a professional player. Throughout the Midwest and Canada, I played baseball often in summer thunderstorms and lived next to a turkey slaughterhouse that employed primarily East African refugees working 24-hour shifts.…

There haven’t been many constants in my life so far, but my love for and almost reliance on sports has been one of the most consistent things that I have come to know. Growing up in a huge, Catholic family of seven children was destined to be a place where athletics thrived; although we never quite had enough kids for even teams. I had an interesting introduction to sports; when I was about one-year old, my parents moved my whole family from our home of Akron, Ohio to Manchester, Vermont, where we lived for six years while my family owned our own popcorn business. In Vermont I was exposed to many extreme sports such as skiing, snowboarding, and snowmobiling, while still being immersed in the New England and Boston team culture that many Northeasterners are faithful to. When we returned to Akron in 2003, it was one-year…

Since I was a toddler, my mom had signed me up for several sports and I had always loved the physicality and mental fortitude involved when competing. I am also a very competitive person, and the sports I played provided me another outlet for my competitive spirit. But it wasn’t until seventh grade that I found the sport that I fell in love with. Since I joined volleyball two years after most of my peers, I was put on the “B-team.”…
