The first time I realized that Economics is so close to our everyday life is when my grandfather put couple yuan to his empty cigarette box and gave that for snacks payment. This is the first time I may spend money and consider independently how to maximize the utility of money I have. Even though it’s just couple yuan, I can buy playing cards, popsicles or other snacks. Considering the rule of playing cards, if I played really well, I can earn cards from others. I spent half of my money buy new cards, only small amount of money left buying popsicles for me and friends, and saved what left. Not only the abundant maths classes offer me sound foundation for the future economic analysis, for instance, advanced mathematics, probability and statistics, and linear algebra, but also the major Economics classes open my world to embrace economics theories and case studies in varied culture background offer me the opportunity to ruminate over the way to apply what we learn to resolve problems in the real life. After two year study in Hohai University, joint program between Hohai University and University of Northern Iowa provide me another opportunity to study abroad, considering my satisfied language score and half tuition cut scholarship offer, I went to University of Northern Iowa to continue my study. Apart from showing great academic performance in all of my major Finance and Economics courses and winning UNI Business Scholarship, I play active part in the local community, helping local church providing food to the people every week, introducing new international students to local student union and providing them resources to donated furniture. This experience gives me a chance to think about what I am learning and what I can do to the society to get better. I believe that whatever major a person learn cannot ever limit what area they will contribute to the society, but to offer a bridge or ladder to make more
