Personal Statement: Digital Media As A Police Officer

Decent Essays
Hello, I’m Rob. I’m a police officer in Pennsylvania. I work in patrol and I am also assigned to our regional SWAT team. In my off time I enjoy working out, camping and doing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In addition to being a police officer, I have spent 20 plus years in the military both active and national guard. Due to my busy schedule AMU was the best fit for me and the only school with the specific program I wanted. To me digital information literacy is your ability to use digital media to gather information. Information could be articles, blogs, videos and photographs. Then to be able to transform that information from various sources in one format, giving credit to the various sources. This media has to be vetted as we all know

The book a highly unlikely scenario written by Rachel Cantor is about a boy named Leonard who works for Neetsa Pizza, and sits in a white room answering phone calls. It starts off with him getting strange calls from a guy named Marco, who claims to be from the thirteenth–century. Also, Leonard’s sister keeps disappearing with her “book club,” which is leaving Leonard to take care of his nephew, Felix. This means he’s got to go outside, and that’s when trouble occurs. The most meaningful part of A Highly Unlikely Scenario for me was Leonard’s relationship with his nephew, Felix.…

Prior to opening Content Area Reading: Literacy and Learning Across the Curriculum (Vacca et al., 2014), I had never thought of literacy as something that was vital to a high school math class. I was under the assumption that math was comprised of working through problems with students to find the solution, but I now recognize that there is greater knowledge to teach and learn. Chapter one of Content Area Reading opened my eyes to the importance of teaching content literacy. A study conducted by Harold Herder (1964) demonstrates this point, for he found that “students who used ‘study guides’ to read a physics text significantly outperformed those students who did not use guides to read the content under study”(Vacca, 2014, p. 18). Students who were assisted in understanding how to read the material comprehended a greater amount of what they were reading.…

What is Digital Humanities? The term digital humanities is one that carries varied meanings, which scholars are constantly formulating, rethinking, questioning and reshaping. However, Melanie Kohnen (2012) postulates that, digital humanities describes the incorporation of digital media into the production, distribution, and archiving of humanities research. Digital Humanities encompasses both the use and creation of digital tools and the interrogation of these tools, that is, to think about how digital media not only remakes research, teaching, and scholarship, but society at large.…

As you are well aware the world is strikingly different and has evolved through constant change. The same may be stated for the military and social media, when I first entered military service in 1977 our social media was personal interaction, slow-mail and phone conversations. Now we acknowledge various mediums that we may use to communicate or keep in touch with family, friends and so forth. The military acknowledges the fact that social media is an intricate part of our culture, social-media benefits the military in a variety of ways from recruiting, and highlighting each individual branch with reports/stories of who they are and what they are accomplishing on home station or around the world, or as a morale boost keeping families separated by long distances in touch.…
