Decent Essays
As a student at Scappoose High School, I have been exposed to several new experiences and ideas. I have stretched the boundaries of my comfort zone by joining the school’s Doernbecher Fundraiser and being more open to new friendships. My friends, both acquaintances and lifelong friends, find it easy to come and talk with me about their feelings, and I listen and give advice where I can. They sense a trustworthy nature from me and I care about what they are going through. Concerning my academics, I am a self-disciplined learner and show my strengths in every assignment. I strive for success in each class, and if I need assistance, I find someone who can help. I thoroughly understand it is my responsibility to meet deadlines and try my hardest

I believe that as an academic advisor it is essential to stay current with academic advising trends, technology, and resources available to my students. In August of 2016 I earned my Master of Arts degree in higher Education Administration. Within my Master’s program, I focused much of my research on academic advising of special student populations including: distance students, LGBTA, Military and Veteran students, and adult learners. I have been an active member of both the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) and the Missouri Academic Advising Association (MACADA) since 2015, attending both regional and state conferences. In September 2016, I accepted a position as the Southeast Regional Representative of MACADA.…

Academically, I have always considered myself to be a driven, and scholarly person. In school I am determined to take the hardest classes to challenge myself, and scholarship is defined as, "Learning of a higher level". The challenging courses that I am provided with help me learn more than if I would take an easy class. I have always taken honors classes when I could, and I push myself to always do better than my best work. I once heard a teacher say, "a class should be taken to learn, not just to get an A".…

When I was in the sixth grade, I disgraced my family. This fact was reinforced by mother’s reaction because she interrupted my normally scheduled summer ritual. Every summer break I would go to my cousin Tobi’s house on Burke Avenue with a few of my older cousins, but could only go after my mother approved of my final report card. Usually, she would make me call her and inform her of my results, but this time she drove up to my junior-high school, a joint elementary and junior high school, I had attended since kindergarten. She asked for my report card of which I, of course, was reluctant to show her because it came with a letter stating that the school strongly suggest I go to summer school.…

I watch as my friends joke around, laughing with one another. Instead of joining them, I head home, where a stack of work awaits me.
