Personal Statement: Community Clean Up

Decent Essays
In my high school their is a club called helping hawks. I joined this club my freshman year and continued all three years. In this club we have various positions that need to be completed weekly. I am involved in the community cleanup and feeding the homeless. My community is very small but we have huge commitment when it comes to these cleanups. These community clean ups are for special events and happen almost every four months or more. They have been going on since I was in 4th grade. I actually began participating in these cleanups since 8th grade. In particular, I remember painting a utility boxes that were outside houses by the side walk. I painted a box with my best friend at the time and enjoyed our time painting and laughing but overall

Every week, I always attend the meeting that presents new opportunities for community service. Some volunteer events that I have participated in over the course of the past two years are the Tualatin Food Pantry, Race for the Cure, Project Jumpstart, and the student store. Some ways I offer service outside of school is by being assistant to an art teacher every week and volunteering at the Beaverton Foodbank occasionally. I work with elementary aged kids that have an interest in art. At the beginning and end of each class, I will set up examples of sketches and books where the children can get inspiration from and also put out the supplies that the children will need such as paper, pencils of various lead hardness, paints, or paint…

For our civic engagement project for the Redefining Leadership class, my group, Stephanie, Hailee, Christina, and I, decided to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House in New Haven, Connecticut on a Thursday. Before we got there, we did not know what to expect, but afterwards, we truly felt grateful that we helped out a great cause. The Ronald McDonald House is a charity house that keeps families close to their family members that are being treated at a nearby hospital. We spoke with someone who works at the House and she told us that eight families were there on that day. We were able to see some people and did what we could to help out.…

In addition to that club, I have volunteered at two pet shelters through The Benjamin Animal Rescue Club. The first one, Furry Friends, was significant because I was able to gather and purchase goods and necessary items that a pet shelter needs on a daily basis. The second shelter I volunteered with, A Second Chance Rescue, had an animal adoption day at a local pet store. I was able to demonstrate Service by supporting the adoption of the dogs that currently had no…

I started building my foundation for community service back in fifth grade with Girl Scouts. My troop volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House, read to kindergartners, and organized food at the food pantry. I continued these acts all the way up through eighth grade. In high school, I joined Key Club, where I sold flowers for powder puff, volunteered at my elementary school’s Trunk or Treat, and helped with the book and coat drive. Outside of school, I continued serving in my church through events like VBS.…

I am truly honored as being a nominee for the Easton Chapter National Honor Society. The standards that must be proven to be nominated by this prestigious society are an example of the hard work and dedication I have exemplified in school. Throughout my years of schooling, I have tried my hardest to get good grades, while also demonstrating the characteristics that make up the National Honor Society; they are leadership, service, and character. While I have exhibited all three throughout my educational career, I feel that my service characteristic stands out above the rest. Service can mean many things, but to me, it means helping someone perform a task they can’t complete themselves, sacrificing your time, and assisting the less fortunate.…

Texas has many attractions, places and communities, but my community being sparkly clean is a dream that within another decade may happen. Living in the poorest community in the United States, you may think Brownsville is a place where trash is found in streets with light brown roads with so much dirt. You believe there are broken down buildings and moldy homes. Honestly most of these assumptions where true about a few years ago.…

Volunteering at the homeless shelter is one of my favorite things to do. A few weeks ago, on a serene Saturday morning, my family and I volunteered at Loaves and Fishes. It was special to see just the sheer amount of people who had come out to volunteer on that Saturday. If you think about, they could’ve been doing anything on that Saturday morning. Yet, they decided to help give back to their community.…
