Graduation Speech: Why Cheerleading Is Important To Me !

As athletes, I think we all HATE going to practices. They’re exhausting, boring, and we almost feel like we don’t really need to be there; but trust me, we do. I have been cheering since I was 5 years old and now that I have seen where it has got me today, I will never take another practice, competition, or game for granite.We have to work for everything in our lifetime and if we think it’s just going to be handed to us, we’re wrong. Every second we are able to be on that blue mat is worth it. Ever since I started cheerleading, whether it is competitive or school, it has been something I have loved to do. People always say “cheerleading isn’t a sport,” and that’s okay, because to me, it’s a passion. I have cheered at Full FX almost all of my years of cheer and it has been a privilege to me. We were all so nervous, because we were up against 12 other teams that did just as good on their performance. Therefore, it was all up to our difficulty. We all danced and socialized before awards to get our minds off of being nervous, but when they announced “senior level 3, large division,” my stomach dropped to my ankles. I held hands with my teammates as they started calling out our places. When they got down to the last 2 teams, they made us stand up and face each other. It was Full FX and Cheertown fighting for 1st place. They made everyone drum roll to see who got second and as soon as they called out Cheertown for 2nd place, I jumped up and instant tears of joy came out. We had just won National Champions in San Antonio. My coach walked up to me and said “Thank you so much for giving it your all, it is so appreciated!” I looked up and said, “I did it all for you coach.” Knowing someone is proud and your hard work is noticed is a tremendous feeling. Now I wear that leather jacket every time it is cold, and that medal hangs on my wall. It is a huge accomplishment for
