When I graduated from Washington Sate University in 2012, I left with a network of life long friends, a double major in Psychology and Sociology title added to my resume, as well as the desire to learn and explore outside of the classroom. I traveled throughout Thailand and Bali, becoming inspired by yoga and the art of meditation. Returning home I engulfed myself in a demanding spiritual and physical training course, earning my certificate as a Registered Yoga Teacher. Then moved to St. John, VI; four thousand miles from the support system at home, into a culture entirely new to myself. I started my position as the Assistant Teacher in January 2015, and was amazed how quickly I loved working with children. Witnessing the children grasp the concepts of the classroom work that I taught them has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. This experience has inspired me to continue my education and become a teacher for youth in early education. I have debated many career paths since graduating high school and college, however I have never been more certain that education is the right path for me. Working at the Montessori has given me insight on how I would want my classroom to function. I would encourage children to be self-sufficient, to do all work properly, and to be kind and respectful to their peers, teachers and parents. To be able to create an environment that is fun and also intellectually stimulating would be my main goal, and being an assistant teacher at The Montessori Center has given me great insight on how to achieve …show more content…
Being able to educate students would be an extremely rewarding profession, but inspiring future generations in the way my teachers did, would be a dream come true. My counselor and I have discussed the challenges set before me to achieve such a dream, even though my time since college has not been designated towards becoming a teacher. I have traveled down the road less walked, into unfamiliar territories, and know my determination to succeed will drive me through those
