If I had to choose a career today, I would be a chemist. This process was kind of a “stress test” to help me decide on a career. During the process, I had changed my mind about becoming a nurse. Instead I had decided that my dream job was working as a chemist, in the chemical manufacturing industry. I also had to do some mental wrestling with my own thoughts as I ventured through the process of finding my dream job. Then I narrowed them down further by annual pay and then job description. The one job that I was most interested in was chemist. Their job is to “Conducts qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses or experiments in laboratories for quality or process control or to develop new products or knowledge.”(CFNC.org) The job description involved tasks that I thought I would like to do, there were jobs available in the Greensboro-Winston Salem area, and the rate of pay was good. I had thought about it and decided that this career was a really good match for me. I thought this job was a good match for me because ever since I been in school Math and Science have always been my favorite subjects. I also loved to work in chemistry and biology labs doing science experiments, and making mathematical calculations and measurements. Maybe I liked those subjects more because I was more science and mathematically inclined. All I knew was that I wanted a career that was science related. I chose to go in this direction because I like to investigate different things and experiment with an array of chemicals to make different products. I also like to weigh objects and make measurements with different types of lab instruments such as, beakers and pipettes. My concern lies with the safety issues of the working conditions since it comes in contact with dangerous materials. “They may come into contact with dangerous materials such as acids and radioactive materials as part of their work.”(Government of Western Australia Department of Training and Workforce Development) The workplace can emphasize safety and get involved with buying their employees safety shoes and other safety equipment to ensure the safety of their employees.The workplace can collaborate with the shoe company who makes and sells safety shoes so that the employees can benefit by improved workplace safety. from getting a safety shoe budget to spend to improve workplace safety and their would be less lawsuits and less workers out of work on medical leave. The shoe company would make a profit off the laboratory workplace because of the safety shoe budget and it will allow employees who may not can afford steel toe shoes to be able to obtain a pair. This collaboration would be interesting and rewarding to me because I would get the saftey shoes that I needed through the company that I worked for, so it would be more like a benefit or a “perk” of the
