I first attended Boise State University after high school in 1996. While at Boise State, I met my husband and we had our first child. I decided to take some time off of school to raise my son, with every intention of returning to college. Little did I know that it would take me almost twenty years to return to Boise State University, but here I am. I am majoring in Elementary Education, with an endorsement in literature. Since coming back to school a year and a half ago I have maintained a 4.0 grade point average. I have worked hard and am committed to maintaining my grade point average. A scholarship would mean a lot to me and my family, as finances are tight. For the past two years I have been able to work a part time job to help cover the expenses of college, but I am entering the last year and a half of school and I am unable to work due to my busy school schedule. Teachers are examples and leaders to the students in the classroom. Students enter the classroom from all walks of life and often, sadly, their teacher is the only positive adult constant and role model. Teachers ensure that students understand concepts in a variety of subjects. They prepare daily lessons, execute the plans, and manage the classroom. Teachers also develop students’ character, advise them, and encourage them to believe in themselves. I aspire to be a teacher that instills a passion for learning and a love for themselves. I desire to be a mentor and role model and hope to always learn from my mistakes so that I can grow into a better teacher every day. I am passionate about working with children and building upon the joy I have experienced working as a paraprofessional. My goal as a teacher is to be compassionate, enthusiastic, and instill a love of learning in the lives of my students. I look forward to continuing my studies and pursuing my dreams at Boise State

My classroom got completely silent; to the point where you could have heard a pin drop.…

I was 10 years old. I looked from the edge of the mat, unaware about the endeavor I was about to take the moment my foot touched that mat. I finally decided to walk on, like they had taught me by bowing, it was the first of a near million times I was going to do this. I was a white belt, at the best taekwondo centers in the area. All the kids, stood to the side eerily silent, waiting for instructions.…

I went from being a stress mess to a straight success (maybe not success yet, but soon).…

Growing up gay in machismo community had its difficulties. Not meeting the status quo can make you feel horribly excommunicated. Often times I would feel as if it was expected that I partake in "manly" activities that just made me feel uncomfortable. Cat-calling and football just weren 't for me. Because of this, I typically felt like I was a failure as a man.…

Arriving home after a long and monotonous day of school, I lob my backpack against my trusty chair and it collapses to its side. Conversely, I find myself wanting to do the same. What I had learned and what I had to do were a couple of the things that went through my mind as I reflected on the day. School work was something I could not have said that I found fun or interesting, however, I could also not have said that I found the work I did insignificant, right?
