My life is brimming with goals, hopes, and aspirations. I seek to fulfill my purpose, and I envision my life as one that will someday, through diligent efforts, embody both success and enjoyment. However, I am thoroughly aware that I’m unable to reach these two elements without a vast amount of hard work, fueled by ambition. Moreover, I’ve learned, early on, the true importance of setting high expectations for one’s self, in every single aspect of life. Thus, when it comes to academics, athletics, or even relationships, I strive to be the best individual I can possibly be.…
At my best, I am driven and determined, working towards a goal. I am passionate about what I study and what I do, and I use that passion to drive my work ethic. My goal has always been to achieve to the best of my ability and to know that I am doing my absolute best in every situation, whatever the domain. I strive to reach my potential and to know that there was nothing more I could have done to improve. As one of my friends described, a large part of my best self is “your drive and ambition to get things done, something which you more than anyone else has.” I am motivated and willing to persevere and to put in the work necessary to accomplish what I know could be possible.…
The core values that define the legacy of Howard University, are similar to those core values I use as a guide whenever I set out to accomplish a task. I always ask myself, will this task show my ability to work with others and will it show my excellence, my true leadership qualities, my truthfulness and or my service? Excellence, leadership, truth and service are the core values used to implement Howard University’s visions. In achieving excellence, I have developed the competency to understand and work in a rigorous academic environment. I have developed the ability to work hard and do my best at all times despite the expected challenges.…
My individual self-concept is that I am independent, hard-working, organized and conscientious. I think that my upbringing and background have been extremely influential in shaping me into the person I am today. Growing up, my parents both worked full-time and were extremely hard-working and organized, which are definitely characteristics that they instilled in me. I have always been very conscious of other people’s emotions, as well as my own, and always try my best to please others. Additionally, I have always thought that my work ethic reflects that I’m definitely a Type A personality, especially because I have “a strong need for productivity, hard work, and the most challenging and stressful work conditions” (Shaheen).…
I have always felt that teaching was something I could do, and something that came naturally to me. As an educator, my number one priority is students’ success. I want my classroom to possess an environment which is open and inviting. I want my students to understand and embrace their successes academically and personally. I will climb and tackle any or every obstacle placed in between me and that success.…
I fully support and understand the Commandant’s vision of Service to Nation, Duty to People, and Commitment to Excellence and in more or less words are the guide lines that I have always strived to follow. Unfortunatly there is not one all encompassing way to be a succesful leader since dealing with individuals can be the largest challenge someone can face. Knowing your own strentghs and weakeness and never tiring from the pursuit of learning and becoming a better leader is all anyone can do. I want to eventually represent the operational units’ needs with credible background and understanding in a place where I can better influence policy decisions and lending to continued Excellence as a service. My personal Command philosophy mirrors that…
Putting my best foot forward and staying optimistic will lead me to success, and my drive to become a successful person is what lead me to have my purposes. Everyone has different values. My academic-related values are: to always work hard, turn work…
This idea can be seen at the forefront of our lives as we all have something that we have a drive to achieve or succeed in. As according to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs we are all searching for a sense of self-actualization or the need to become what one believes he or she is capable of being (Rathus, 2010, p.366-367). This has always been something that’s been important and I always strive to be the best version of myself, I feel like I’m letting myself down if I don’t. I believe that I have a high achievement motivation as I am usually driven to get ahead, to tackle challenging situations, and to meet high personal standards of success (Rathus, 2010, p.375). I usually set very high expectations for myself in the things that I do, this can be a good thing as I set out to reach this challenge but it can also add more pressure to myself.…
One of the first characteristics that set me apart from others is my hard working, positive attitude. My dedication not only applies to my academics, but rather every aspect of my life. I am enthusiastically committed to each of my involvements and always have optimism toward everything I do. My mentality is to approach every obstacle as a way to grow and develop, bettering myself each and every day. I work diligently to maintain strong relationships with my siblings, friends, mentors, and family members because their emotional support is a fundamental to who I am.…
