For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to pursue a career in social work. I have always been passionate about helping others and I hope to be able to make a difference in the lives of those around me. Throughout my life I have always been the person my friends would come to when something was wrong and they needed to talk. Growing up I have had close family members struggle with addiction and mental health problems. I seen how damaging these experiences can be on the individual, but I also have learned the affects of these experiences can have on family relationships. My personal experiences have impacted my decision of wanting to become a social worker.

By being given this option I would be able to focus my studies around mental health and substance abuse. I believe this will really benefit me as a social worker because social workers are always in the position where they can gain more knowledge. The School of Social Work also offers different certificate programs. If interested in these certifications I would be able to obtain new skills that would benefit me in the field of social work. This program will also allow me to gain more confidence in myself as well as in the information I have learned while earning my social work …show more content…
While working to obtain my Bachelor’s Degree I was able to balance a full-time course load, worked 30-40 hours a week and attended my field placement twice a week. Having such a hectic schedule taught me how to balance multiple responsibilities. I also believe that I will do well in this program and be able to fulfill the program requirements because my goal is to receive my Masters in Social Work in order to pursue my career in social work. I have always been very committed to achieving my goals and I have never been one to give up on something once I set my mind to it, no matter how difficult it may be. I know that I will be able to do whatever is necessary in order to complete my degree because helping others is my passion and one day I hope to be a great social worker and can make a difference in other peoples
