A. There are more than 160 internationally- recruited medical staff members working in various missions around the world to help the needs of 26,400 field staff. There are many different positions, like Nurse, Pharmacist, Medical Officer and more. They help not only physical needs, but also mental needs. These jobs allow for professional development and is fulfilling. The staff must work together for success.

B. The medical officer must be able to perform clinical duties, like operating clinics and hospitals. Also, the must be able to take action in emergencies, as well as completing medical exams, immunizations and more. The education required to have a career in medicine for the U.N is dependent on the specific role you apply for. In order to be a medical officer, it is mandatory that you have a Doctorate (MD) or medicinal equivalent, including residency in a specialty field. To be a nurse you must be a Registered Nurse (RN) you must have graduated a Baccalaureate Diploma Program or an accredited Diploma Program. You must also have a certificate in ECG, CPR or Basic Life Support. It is also required to be fluent in English, orally and written. It is an advantage to know French as …show more content…
There are no internships currently available at the UN in the medical family so I found a job that sparked my interest. One job position that is available is to be a Medical Officer stationed in Bamako. Some responsibilities that this job requires fall under four categories: Clinical Duties, Medical Administrative Duties, Supervisory Administration, and general. Clinical Duties entail being able to work in a walk-in clinic, emergency situations, perform medical examinations, makes referrals to specialist and follows up with them. Medical Administrative Duties include following UN policies, planning for crisis, and filling in for senior medical officers when they are absent. Supervisory Administration involves Managing medical supplies and ensures machine function correctly, and makes sure that training programs are available. General implies that you must be able to perform and other action required. To receive this job, you must have a doctorate (MD) or medical degree that is equivalent. It is also required to have a certificate in tropical and travel medicine. You must also have a minimum of five years’ experience in clinics that addresses Occupational health and safety and environmental
