Personal Statement: A Career As A Social Worker

How would I describe myself? I have seen struggles in life and have worked through these issues. When thinking about the career I wanted. I looked through a whole bunch of majors and actually my grandmother was a social worker too. I want to become a social worker because I want to be a support system. I don’t believe going into this type of work is to my benefit. I believe it is to the benefit of the client. I hope that with working in different dimensions of social work that I learn what best support system is for a client. Each situation is different because it is dependent on their environment. Once I made the decision that I wanted to become a social worker, I had to decide where I wanted to start my education after high school. …show more content…
I no longer work at the manor at Yorktown but while I was working there. It is an independent living place for senior citizens. It was an interesting experience because I was a server there. It was great to interact with the residents because there stories were amazing to listen too. They always wanted to talk, wanting to know what was going in my life. It was the type of job that I loved going in everyday because of the residents. Sadly I had to leave that job, I decided to work for whole foods market. I have worked at two different stores for the past 3 years. I am a cashier there and it’s an interesting job because it is talking to multiple people that I don’t know. It’s some of the customers are locals and so I do have conversations with them. It was a complete change and it was great change for me too because it made me realize that one situation isn’t always going to be constant. I have volunteered at woman’s place in Doylestown, PA where they help women who are going through domestic violence issues and need help getting out and safe place to stay.
