First of all, coming from a lower class, education for my family is important because they want me to have a higher paying job. Therefore, I have the financial support from my parents and I’m blessed because I know that not everyone has that. So for me is important to figure out exactly the career I’m going to pursue. Know that I’m aware of the different degrees there is in order to become a social worker. I can learn more about the types of setting to work for.
In addition, the only places I knew a social worker work for were hospital and nursing homes. When we got the chance to share whom we interview during class I learned that they can work in school, hospital, nursing homes, private clinical, and with the government. I thought that all of the setting where control by the government, but I was wrong because several of “these settings can be public or private, primary or host, sectarian or nonsectarian, nonprofit or for-profit settings, or independent practice” (DuBois and Miley 80). Meaning that it depends on what setting a social worker is applying to because each place relies on their found. For example, if you were working for a public setting your income sources would come from the taxes whereas, independent practice settings their income source comes from patients with insurance or if they are paying cash. Also, working for a private, nonprofit, for-profit, or any other setting a social worker has many “. . . opportunities to work in many different settings with people whose problems, issues, and needs are diverse” (DuBois and Miley 4).
