Personal Statement: A Career As A Production Assistant

Majoring in film production will allow me to learn everything there is to know about the different positions and aspects of a film production. In my experience, most film production majors dream of becoming the next big director or cinematographer. For me, my dream career is to become a production designer and maybe even a producer along the line.
What I love most about production design, is that you help bring the story to life. It is not just actors standing around reciting lines from a script, as the production designer, you help bring the location and atmosphere of the script onto the screen. You help bring the viewers into that world that the actors are in.

I also hope to be apart of the Dean’s list and maybe an honors society.
I was given a great opportunity to volunteer as a production assistant for a student film. My background is in theatre production, so I was excited for the opportunity to work with a great group of students who have the same passion as me. As a production assistant, I worked with the assistant director when we did lockups and wrap times for all the departments. I made sure that the actors and crew members had everything they needed before they all started to shoot. It was a great experience and I will never forget my first time works as a production assistant.
Another work experience I have is working as the production designer for a PSA titled “Alzheimer’s” and a short clip titled “Sebastian Bravo’s School of Acting”. This experience allowed me to follow my passion for production design and learning how it works in TV. As the production designer, I had to do a rough sketch of where I wanted the set pieces to go according to the floor grid, and then get props and set pieces together for the production. I also helped with editing the script for both

Another great example for production design in science fiction movies is the movie Ex Machina. To begin with, production design includes the design of sets which makes set design one of the most important aspects while producing a movie. For example, one of the points set design deals with is the location where the film is going to be shot. Funderburg (2015) explained that in the movie Ex Machina, they used two Norwegian locations both designed by the architects Jensen & Skodvin. One of the locations is a private mansion and the second one is the Juvet Landscape Hotel, which consists of single suites secretly linked to the fjord and forest around them (para. 2).…

In the d-block production, ‘Inherit the Wind’ I served the role of publicist, along with this role I had the job of preparing flyers, making signs, and creating a playbill. I selected this role because I am very familiar with the use of all of the google apps and I thought it would be an exciting and challenging role. I envisioned the role to be lots of computer work, which it was and I also thought it would have to require lots of detail and attention to make sure I got everything right, as it was. I thought our blocks production was well performed as well as organised and put together.…

Last year, prior to the premiere of Garage Sale Mystery: The Novel Murders, I had the extraordinary experience of interviewing Ken Tremblett. Up to that point, I had only known Ken as Grant Markham from Unleashing Mr. Darcy and Patrick from When Calls the Heart. Even though Ken's career is decidedly more extensive than his recent Hallmark films, he fosters a certain fondness in his heart for these delightful tales in which he normally portrays "the man you love to hate. " It sounds as though Ken may be whitewashing his image a bit in his upcoming Hallmark film The Art of Us, and I am grateful that this successful working actor took a moment recently to answer a few questions about this film in addition to his recent and upcoming roles.…

On the advice of a fellow costumer, we began to search for a new dress only to find the remaining one was three sizes too big for our actress. Amidst a flurry of humming sewing machines; we were able to take the dress in four inches and have our actress ready just seconds before her next stage entrance. The process of putting together a theatre production from “page to stage” is an extensive undertaking, which requires time, energy, and resources at every step. First of all, the process will start with the dramagurge whose task it is to seek out a script or playwright (this may take several months or even years). Once the dramaturge’s suggested script is accepted by a producer (or theatre company), he/she (the producer) must begin to consider various questions: Who is going to create this show( directors, designers, ect.)? Where will it be performed? What type of theatre space do we want it in?…

As actors, we must come to the realization that we are not in a stable career field. With that being said, it is in our best interest to have a backup plan of other possibilities in the arts so that we do not find ourselves wailing in the idea that we went to college for nothing. I am studying theatre in the performance aspect, concentrating in acting. I am actually leaning more towards the entertainment field rather than the artistic field, which does not require any sort of theatre education on a collegiate level, however I am here because while I want to be a screen actress, I do love theatre and I need the education in case I fail in my hopes and dreams. If that unfortunate occurrence comes true, my “Plan B” is to either be a director or a playwright.…
