Personal Statement: A Career As A Medical Assistant

I already have a basic idea of what I want to do for a living. I have always had a soft heart and empathetic mind for people. Already knowing this about myself, I know I absolutely have to pursue a job that serves other lives. I want to help people so badly, and the first step to deciding that’s what I needed to do involved changing my life plan. Sitting in that chair at the computer, imagining life at USU, I changed my whole path. I no longer wanted to go into agricultural sciences. I knew what I wanted to be then. I want to become a nurse. I immediately enrolled in the Tooele Applied Technology College to become a medical assistant and keep reaching towards my goal of becoming an RN. I continued until my senior year and had to stop due to my part time job working at a clothing department store and starting college at the TATC. I loved every second I had with my team and learned so much with coach Roberts, however, I had my own trials that no one could detect with their eye sight. I was extremely depressed. Waking up in the mornings to go to school got harder and harder every day. I didn’t want to eat and eventually got to a weight where I wasn’t supposed to even be swimming anymore. Going through highs and lows and getting to a point I just wanted to give up. Despite what I was going through, I kept going to class and I kept listening to the material and absorbing every word like that was all I needed to carry on. I wanted to learn. The whole concept of learning, the kindness of my teammates, and the love and support from my family kept me going and now that I am almost to my graduation day I couldn’t be prouder.
