Personal Statement: A Career As A Marine Mammal Trainer

When I grow up, I want to be a marine mammal trainer. This has always been my dream job because I love marine animals more than any other kind of animals. I want to be able to build relationships with them, take care of them, and play with them on a daily basis. I chose this career because I’ll be getting to do what I love every day for a living. This is a very fun and hands-on job. All day you are working with the animals or performing/speaking to the public. Another thing that made me choose this career is that you are in the water for most of your job. Ever since I first learned to swim when I was little, I’ve loved it so much. Every summer, all I want to do is be in the water, no matter where I’m at. Marine mammal training may be a very fun job, but it also has several duties that you have to finish every day. You have to be able to take care of the animals properly and meet their needs. You have to feed them and make sure they have enough. You have to give them checkups and take notes on any differences in their weight, behavior, or any health issues. If you notice anything out of the ordinary, then you must study the animals. You have to find out what is wrong with them or what is causing their different behavior and then you must try to fix it or find a cure. Play time is also very important too. Biology will be the most important because it will help me learn about the anatomy of the animals and understand the way their bodies work. P.E. will help me stay in shape and keep good stamina. Marine mammal training requires a lot of swimming and heavy lifting. Animal training relies heavily on basic psychology principles, so that’s a very important class to have as well. Health science at Votech will help because it will further into anatomy and I can also get my CPR
