Opportunities like this are worthwhile and in the long run will help with my school and career goals. I have learned so much from my experience as a camp counselor, and I have also met many people that I would not have had the chance to meet, without this experience,” said former camp counselor, Lyra Schroeder. Many people have been attending the camp since they were children, and 90% of the campers are returnees from previous years. “Overall, Beacon Lodge is a great place for people with disabilities to come and have the typical summer camp experience but adapted to their unique needs. In the adult camp, the campers have friendships with other campers that go back decades. It’s also an opportunity for the campers to come back to a place they know well and feel comfortable in, and be able to participate in activities they may not get to do out in the world,” said…

Camp is place unlike any other. It is a place that people’s wall begin to fall down and new relationships are formed. This is bound to happen when you drop 200 teenagers in the middle of the Smoky Mountains without any of their electronics. I was lucky enough to be chosen for the Project Serve team and got to see camp from a new perspective. I got to be a part of all of the behind the scenes work, but also daily interactions with all of the campers due to my job at camp.…

As a Fish Camp counselor I want to gain a stronger network through the entire camp and develop a bond with others beyond who I have met my first two semesters of college. I want to be a mentor for the next year freshman as they transition into college just like my DG-discussion group-parents did for me. I’d also like to develop my leadership qualities even further through the entire process. The counselors that were in my camp had strong relationships with one another and that is something I want to be apart of. I want to help the Class of 2020 in anyway I can because the counselors my year influenced me significantly and helped me transition into college.…

I want to be in the Leader's In Training program because Camp Mendocino is teaching youth how to live a healthy life at a young age. This camp helps the upcoming youth live in reality instead of the virtual world and ties into my overall life goal of helping Americans understand what it means to live a healthy life physically and mentally. This is important to me because I have dealt with depression and how unhappy I was with myself as a person. From the negative experience I’ve had with depression I don't want any child or teen feel like they are unworthy of the life they are living. By working with Camp Mendocino I will be helping the youth understand how to have a healthy state of mind by encouraging campers to deal with negative feelings…

It is a place to people come to, to overcome their adversity and learn something they will love. With the most important programs that we offer such as the Daysail, and rehabilitation program.…

In need of a volunteer for the preparatory summer program? Well look no further, as I would be more than happy to oblige. As there is a vacant position within the program, and I have a burning passion for providing counseling and guidance to those in need of it, I would be grateful if you were to grant me an interview. Central's host of guidance counselors and higher education assistants have answered all of my post-high school related questions in an in-depth and knowledgeable manner. As a fickle and undecided graduating senior myself, I have also researched the many varying paths one could choose to travel after high school, including, but not limited to, college, trade school, military, and immediate workforce options.…

Ever since I was little I wanted to have a job that would have me around marine mammals all the time. My career choice started as me wanting to be a dolphin trainer at SeaWorld but as I matured and learned I wasn’t going to be physically able to do that I decided to become a marine biologist. I got that idea from my big brother who wanted to do the same thing but he wanted to specialize in studying marine mammals. I’ve always been curious why dolphins can become trained so easily, and how their brains process information. I plan on getting my major in marine biology and my minor in environmental science.…

Thanks the Texas Exes alumni, I was able to go to Camp Texas for free this year. At first I thought that it was like any normal 3- day camping trip, which made me extremely excited since I enjoy camping very much. Once I got there, I realized that it was a different type of camp. I was nervous and scared because I’m not very good at socializing. The reason I’m writing this is because I learned so much about being open minded, accepting, and kind to other people and new experiences.…
