Before I could even comprehend the letters in front of me, my parents instilled in me a love for reading. And, thanks to their patience and diligence, reading and writing have always been my strongest and most beloved subjects. At the age of eight I had read the Harry Potter series multiple times and could recite my favorite passages on demand. By the age of ten I had read most of the books in my local library and by eleven I had begun to read the classics such as Pride and Prejudice. By fourteen I had begun biographies and by 16 I had a book self as diverse as the authors featured on it.
Though I was often teased for my overwhelming love for reading, I never for one moment wavered. Reading allowed me to escape reality and learn more about the world around me. Reading gave me the opportunity to

Most days I find myself ahead of my classmates in the material, often asking my teachers for additional work to complete. Due to this I often find myself searching for something to occupy my time between classes, having completed my additional work days in advance. The small class size, formerly a positive point is now somewhat a negative. In an average class size of ten students I feel as though every action is on display. And as often is the case in a class of six when three students do not attend the professor is forced to question whether to teach or to simply cancel class due to lack of attendance. My education has begun to rely on the students in my class instead of myself.
A highlight of my time at the College of Saint Joseph’s included the cross country team. I ran cross country for the College of Saint Joseph’s during its inaugural year and it taught me the value of patience. Going from a high school skill level to a college skill level was a challenge but I believe that by the end of my season I was performing at a level that I never could have reached during my high school

Reading has always been a part of my life. Starting from a young child all the way up to where I am now I can remember many different ways reading has impacted my life. For some people reading is what they did to pass the time, but for me it has always been different. Being a small child I did not enjoy the outdoors in the same sense other children did. When I went outside I wanted to sit by a tree and read a book instead of run around and play on the playset.…

Reading was something I was practically raised on as a child. My dad made sure that my younger sister and I were read to every single night before he tucked us in, passing down a tradition that he believed had aided in shaping his own childhood. I distinctly remember my simple mind roaming along in the lands of Narnia and Middle Earth as such books instilled in me a restless sense of adventure and a longing to learn. This longing drove me to read more and more on my own, all the while my father continued to read to me at a higher and more complex level, that at the time seemed unattainable. Yet books to me were journies completely separate from my own world and I could never seem to envision them as anything more than a source of entertainment.…
