Personal Speech: You Were The Only Great Grandparent

Improved Essays
You were the only Great Grandparent I had the honor of knowing. I wish that you were living to be capable of viewing the legacy you left behind. You died when I was only seven years old; yet your traditions, beliefs, and ways of life are still holding true with our family. Not only do we still have our annual Easter Egg hunt every year, we still hang all of our Christmas stockings together on one mantle, we have started growing our own gardens, several of us are raising chickens, and three of your five grandchildren are teachers (with one on the way to becoming one). You were so much fun to be around when I was a little girl and you made lasting impressions on your two daughters, your grandchildren, and then your great grandchildren.

My friends and cousins tend to call on me when they need a babysitter or help with their children since they know how we will get along with one another. I am creative and love to come up with activities, games, and crafts to spend our afternoons doing. This is thanks to you Maw; you always made sure we had an activity that kept us busy and out of any trouble, yet it was usually educational. One of my favorite activities was working in the gardening sowing crops. We were always so proud of ourselves to see a sprout and then to eat the fruits later! Your green thumb has been passed down through generations. I have a healthy garden growing with okra, squash, tomatoes, and peppers this year. I also help tend to the chickens on Daddy’s farm; there is nothing quite like fresh eggs in the …show more content…
I partially chose this school since my mother, maternal grandmother, and paternal grandfather all were graduates. There is something sweet about being a legacy. Dahlonega is one of the most beautiful areas I have ever visited and the town was another convincing factor for me to move there. I worked on my education for a few years fighting with myself on which path to take. At the time, the medical field path seemed fitting. Now looking back I feel as though there were signs pointing me in the other direction yet I was oblivious to them. I am now older and wiser and have many years of college and technical school under my belt; as well as six years working out in the medical field. I wake up each morning and go to an office job where I feel that I have no purpose. I am not fulfilled and my heart is lacking something. Friends and family members could sense this battle I was having with myself and many mentioned that I would be great as a teacher. The role is fitting for my personality. Last summer I registered and began taking classes at University of North Georgia after work and it is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I have made all A’s in my time back at school and am excited for each class to see what I can learn. I strive to do the best I can and hope to one day be half the teacher you were. University of North Georgia will allow me to surpass expectations of a new teacher and

I would first like to thank Frostburg State University for accepting me in their institution and giving me the chance to further my education after my high school scholar years. I have enjoyed my time at Frostburg State University and with hard work I have been able to make the dean’s list and be accepted in the Honors program during the first semester of my freshman year. I hope to continue to work even harder during the second semester and throughout my school career. As a small university, Frostburg has enabled me to benefit from many things, such as the small size classes. Now that I have gotten used to college and life on campus, I believe it is time to continue to push myself to work harder and to attend an institution where I could be academically challenged and can be surrounded by many people who share my profession.…

After I graduated high school a few years ago, I attended the University of Alabama for a short time before I decided that I did not want to be in school at the moment, and would rather work until I was ready to go back to school. Being in the small town of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, was a culture shock to me being that I was born and raised in the suburbs of Washington D.C., and then moved to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where I always had plenty of activities to choose from. Coming to Union College was not something I had been planning for a long time; it was very last minute and was a difficult decision to make seeing that I had already left college in the past, partial reasoning because I was not happy in a small town: I felt trapped. Ever since the year 2012, I have moved five times living in four different states—Alabama, Florida, Maryland, and Kentucky—which has been stressful for me to say the least. The move to Barbourville, Kentucky was not entirely easy, it was difficult to leave my family and move to a part of the U.S. that I had never visited before.…

Eulogy It never occurred to me that I would be up here so soon, talking about my Grandmother, Joyce White instead of celebrating her birthday with her and talking about the good old times when I was a little girl. I remembered my Grandmother as a beautiful lady with long black dark hair, rosy cheeks and red lips. She was not your typical grandma who baked cookies, stay in the house all day and knit sweaters, she was a woman who enjoyed life to its fullest. I used to remember when I was a little girl, I would love when my grandma comb my hair, she would plait my hair and when she is done, I would say to her, “Mama do not forget to fix my baby hair at the front with the brush,” she would smile and say “yes Kay, I did not forget.” She was a…

When people think of a good teacher they think of one that is nice, encouraging, trusting, and many other adjectives. Unlike most people, who change their mind on the career they want, I knew from the start that I wanted to be a teacher. I have many goals I hope to achieve when I am a teacher for example, making class a fun and exciting environment for the students and have them look forward to coming to class.
