My main focus while studying abroad is to gain proficiency in Spanish and to work towards the completion of my Spanish major. I cannot think of a better place to learn Spanish than from its country of origin. Through interactions with the natives of Seville and the courses explaining the history of the language, I will have a comprehensive understanding of Spanish and further develop my interpersonal skills. In addition, as a current senior at Texas Tech, studying in Seville would provide me with twenty-one credit hours towards the completion of my Spanish major, an internship with a business in Seville, and multicultural credit for my Psychology major. I am hopeful to get an internship in the field of psychology in order to prepare for my psychiatry profession after graduation. One of the main reasons for adding Spanish as a major is because within the psychological fields there is a lack of cultural awareness. Cultural values and ideals directly influence the way patients express their feelings and the type of treatment that would best accommodate their needs. As a future clinician, I want to be more consciously aware of different cultures and adapt to each patient individually.
