There is the possibility for safety concerns in the lab that may happen at any given moment. This could range from contact with a biological agent, splashing a hazardous chemical or even handling radioactive material. It is of the upmost importance that personal protective equipment be worn in the lab that should protect them from specific hazards of a hazardous substance. It should be noted that personal protective equipment used in the lab does not open the gates for a lacks in the protocols and measures one should be taking to ensure safety.
When it comes to the personal protective equipment it really comes down to the duties to be performed and the materials involved. The personal protective equipment in this lab should include: Face, eyes, gloves, protecting clothing and boot protection.

Selection of the proper PPE is of great importance when preventing blood borne pathogens. This is the only way we have control over exposure to a potentially infectious agent. Depending on the procedure to be performed as well as the infectious agent, PPE should be applied.
Exposure Procedure
The supervisor must be notified immediately and help obtained. Depending on the infectious agent, action ensued. There must be documentation made in the log book of the injury and exposure. Included in this documentation should be the PPE that was worn, the infectious agent, as well as name and date.
