The Blue Mask

By:Brenden Blakley

I was terrified. There was a test coming up in math class. I was sure I was going to fail. I had not studied at all last night. I walked nervously down the hall to Mrs.Vessar’s class. I know I will fail but I still try my best in class. The teacher calls my name ”Tera.” to get the test I start the test with sweat dribbling down my face. I answer the first question, 10x + 3y = 24 - 3 - 4x. The answers seem to come easily but I feel like I’m missing each question when I get to the end and answer the extra credit. I walk up to the teacher and turn in the paper. I look around and realize that I am the first one done. I am mortified. My thoughts race, I must have done something wrong, should I get my paperback

I started looking up things on the French revolution like what it meant, why it started, and when did the tides turn. I got stuck and looked out my window and saw someone in a mask walking down the sidewalk and I thought it isn’t Halloween yet, is it? No, it’s not Halloween yet. I look closer at the person walking in the mask and saw the mask they wearing looks like my mask, wait it is my mask! I get closer to the window and see that the man is coming closer to my house. I am petrified. He is wearing my mask, coming towards my house. I run to my room and pick up the phone my first thought is to call the police but this could be just a coincidence so instead I call Gylfie. She tells I am probably just tired and being paranoid and talks me down. I hang up the phone and look out the window and he is gone. I hear scratching coming from the window and see the man in the mask, that suddenly has a knife clawing at the window. Then the power shuts off. Oh no I think as I silently curse to myself. I think about what could I do. I could run to Gylfie’s house. I could call the police. I chose to run to the phone and call and I looked at it and it was dead. Oh no. There is no power and the man is probably through the window I decide to stall and lock my door and grab a weapon I choose a lamp that is sitting on my bed side because he has a knife I could throw my lamp and make a quick getaway. I heard footsteps and they are getting louder. I get into a stance with so much fear it probably radiated off me. A loud knock rang in my ears as he banged on the door. I stand still staring at the door waiting for it to burst open then I see a knife pierce the door then it retracts and makes another, then another, then another. Soon it looks as if there is a big circle in the door. He then bangs on the door and there is my mask. I throw the lamp at him then try to run past him

It was a night like most others in the abandoned ghost town. All I saw was darkness and shadows creeping around every corner. I heard the howls of coyotes and the hooting of owls through the midnight air. The whistling wind rang the rusty, wind chimes dangling from the old run-downed mansion. The sign above read “Muddy Creek Manor”.…

I never considered myself to be an excellent writer but still thought I wrote well enough to get my point across without confusing the reader too much. However, any confidence that I had in my writing skills was lost for a short time when I had to write my first timed essay in school. Luckily, the timed essay assignment also helped me see that I needed to work on my writing and, as a result, actually turned out to be a more positive experience rather than a negative one. It was just another regular school day that was near its end, and I had one more class to go to before everyone was released to go home.…

Last night as I watching TV, I heard a soft knock on the back door. I pondered upon who it could have been. My parents were out of town for my cousin’s wedding, and my sister spent the night at her friend Becca’s. I ignored the knock, and nonchalantly blamed it on the wind. Then the knocking was back.…

The first thing I noticed when I walked into Jasmine Middle School was how big the eighth graders were. I knew that in middle school the sixth graders would be the babies, but it was still kind of a shock at how big eighth graders really were; well, at least I hoped the kids I was looking at were eighth graders. If the group of kids hanging out by the lockers were seventh graders, then eighth graders must be huge. Luckily, after looking around for a few seconds, I spotted my best friend, Georgina Larson by the water fountain. She’s never hard to find, because her hair is light blonde, and she’s always wearing really flashy outfits.…

Throughout my life, I have been the victim of several burglaries. At the age of seven, someone, in broad daylight, broke into our house and shot my dad in the chin. I was displaced to my aunt's house for weeks and missed most of my 1st grade year. When I was seventeen, I walked in on my home being robbed by some local kids. They were upstairs when I came into the house and escaped through a window, but the idea that I could have come home earlier still haunts me.…

Baseball Baseball has always been one of my favorite sports, and it will always be the longest sport I’ve played. A total of 9 years in Khoury league and 2 years in high school, so all in all I have been playing this sport almost all my life. I started baseball with the Red Bud T-ball team, the team had a count of 15 people including me and excluding the coaches. Those 15 kids playing on that team became some of my bestest friends and greatest teammates to have. Most of them ended up being with me until we couldn't play khoury league anymore, and then only about 3 or 5 of them played school ball with me.…

Sitting in a hard plastic chair in my math class I felt paralyzed. The heat in the room was unimaginable on the cool autumn day. I could not be the only one that was feeling it. At the same time I could barely keep head straight as the math test stared back at me with harsh eyes telling me “you will never be able to pass this class,” in a slithering tone. A drop of sweat rolled down the side of my face.…
