Personal Review Of Simulation Practice

Decent Essays
During the simulation practice, I observed that the charge nurse, primary nurse, and secondary nurse work as a team. The secondary gave a bedside report as well as she delegated to take vital sign. On the other side, the charge nurse delegated to pass medication while the primary nurse was making a phone to contact patient’s doctor.

The nurses in the ED have up to three patients for whom they are for. The nurses do not have CNA, so they are responsible for taking vital, providing blanks, water, assessments, treatments, and the nurses are responsible for doing everything for the patients. This is also the case for nurse whom I worked with previous clinical experiences. This clinical setting is similar to Labor and Delivery because the nurses are super involved and continuously monitor the patient. The one way the role and responsibility differed from past clinical experience is that client-patient relationship is short-term.…

Concepts of Interprofessional Collaboration The concepts of interprofessional collaboration were made to help us all work together through associations to solve compound health complications. Significant ideas with the relationships, that nurses use every day, include sharing information or education, working together in partnerships, authority (who is in charge?), and being able to be accountable independently or in a group. They also utilize the diversity in the patient population and professional people that we work with. Although, there are no strong associations to how the groups work, all are different, but all have a patient focused atmosphere (D 'Amour, et al., 2005) to reduce risk factors for certain populations and to deliver services…

I attended the Bertha Strong Stroke Simulation event on March 1, 2016, at the Arizona State University Downtown Phoenix campus held at the Mercado building. I had attended this event in the past thought it would be interesting to compare my experiences. I was surprised to find that my first comparison would be the registration and receipt of materials needed to prepare for the event. It may have been due to familiarity with the process, but the current process seemed more coordinated. The registration process was different; it seems as though the old system had some issues as it has been changed slightly.…

Today’s students come from diverse backgrounds with varied experiences, beliefs and values therefore I believe educators can facilitate learning by engaging this diverse student group using technology and innovative approaches to teaching that is experiential and builds upon essential professional knowledge and develop skills. Students also vary in the way they approach thinking and problem solving. The ability to think critically and make individualized but safe clinical judgments is significant outcome in nursing. Therefore, I believed that educators should assess students’ cognitive development as well as their dispositions and abilities to think critically and make clinical decisions in order to guide students in experiential learning.…

There are three rules of LPN delegation; (1) Only nursing care in stable situations, (2) Orders not subject to change, (3) Selected task in unstable conditions (Hurst Review Services, n.d.). Anytime a nursing judgment, assessment, or problem solving is needed, the task should not be delegated. The Right directions and communication In this situation, the RN and the LPN should have communicated the care plan for this patient and the proper steps that needed to be addressed. If there is a degree of harm to a patient in a task the nurse must retain the task for themselves (Hurst Review Services n.d.).…

The AACN suggests nurses nurse staffing must ensure an effective match between nurse skills and patient needs (AACN, 2016). Not only does inappropriate staffing lead to medical errors, it can also bring about stressed and overworked nurses. The unit I work on is often short-staffed leading nurses to take on more than they are used to and leaving charge nurses scrambling to assign duties and calling in reinforcements. To the best of my ability, I will try to match my nurse’s abilities to the patient’s acuities and request critique if the assignments do not work effectively with current staffing. In order to address the staffing needs and the workflow that changes hour to hour, I believe the implementation of a resource nurse role will help address the staffing needs when patient loads become hectic.…
