Personal Responsibility Personal responsibility can go a long way, not only in education, but in everyday life as well. When you are responsible, you get things done in a timely manner. You make sure everything is done correctly, and you do not need to be reminded on a daily basis to do your work. Personal responsibility gets you the education you need, and you do not have to rely on others for the rest of your life. “The willingness to both accept the importance of standards that society establishes for individual behavior and to make strenuous personal efforts to live by those standards” (Haskins, 2009). I think his words are meaningless – a politician’s words. They echo the utterings of his former boss, Janet Reno, who took “full responsibility” for the Waco fiasco… She’s enjoying a luxurious retirement, of course” (Freeh, 2001). Basically, when you take the responsibility for what is done, people do forgive and you can go about your business. When you do your homework, you get the education you deserve because you are attempting to get good grades throughout the school years.
Personal responsibility also means you can be a leader in life because you can handle things on your own. We need more leaders in life and less followers. “Optimism is a choice” (Galentine, 2012). When you lead, you set an example to others. If you have children, it is your responsibility to be a leader for them, and guide them in the right path. You do not want your children to be followers when they grow up, rather leaders. You have to teach them to be responsible for their own actions as well. That is taking responsibility, not throwing your kids to your parents.
Success is in the beholder. To be successful, you take every measure to do what is right. Whether it be homework, a set curriculum or just managing the time you have in the day for personal life and school life, you make sure you take the time to get good grades and gain the knowledge you can from school.
