Personal Reflective Essay: Personal Writing

It’s 12:30 pm and I cannot sleep. My mind refuses to shut down and let me rest. A thought keeps replaying in my mind over and over again. After several failed attempts to try to sleep, I get my iPod and I begin to write. I transfer my thoughts, feelings, and worries into the digital notepad. When I am finished writing, I am able to relax and my mind starts to shut down. Not only does my writing allow me to relax (sleep), but it helps me to translate my thoughts and possibly see a deeper meaning to them. My personal writing is brief and plagued with grammatical errors. My main purpose for writing is to sort through my thoughts and to relieve stress. Yet, I also have a dislike for writing as well. Sometimes I struggle to get inspiration or motivation to write. Others times I don’t know how to organize my thoughts to begin writing. Writing is definitely something that doesn’t come easily to me. I am a horrible speller and spellcheck is my life support. Even though I learn a lot about commas last semester, I still struggle with commas. Overall I struggle the most with transitions and connecting my first thought with the second thought. With every piece of writing I make progress in the areas that I struggle in.
That's another thing I like about writing, it’s documented growth. With every piece of writing you learn something new or improve

I remember the story because of its title, “Rome wasn’t built in a day, but we destroyed it in one”. The title of the story was from advice I gave to a friend about staying sober and the devastation of relapsing. The title of the story is still one of my favorite titles for any of my writing pieces to this date. At the time I wrote the story, it was the best piece of writing I ever did. The words were beautifully crafted onto the page and flowed with the theme effortlessly. The concept of the story was something I was passionate

Writing would never be called my passion; however, if the topic of interest is thought-provoking, writing can be pleasurable. I have always been exceedingly critical of my writing, and I have a bad habit of producing your standard “five paragraph with five sentences” essay. High school was the true test of my writing skills, mainly because I had to take the ACT and SAT with writing if I wanted to get into the only Georgia school that I thought was up to par with my standards: The University of Georgia. Even though my teachers have considered me to be an acceptable writer, I have always considered myself rather subpar. This insecurity about my writing has haunted me throughout my life, and I have this feeling towards writing mainly…

The writing process was different and interesting for me. When you assigned this essay I automatically knew that I wanted to write about music censorship. The introductory paragraph surprisingly was very easy for me to write which is never the case because I’ve always had trouble with creating a thesis statement and attention getter. Once I started writing the body paragraphs that’s where I experienced more trouble because I’ve gotten used to just writing whatever is on my mind not outlining my thoughts. Before starting college I had taken two years of AP english and even AP history where we were timed for each essay.…

Upon completing a personal developments plan, which highlights leadership and management objectives I feel I need to further develop. I am now going to reflect upon these objectives in the following text. Lautebach and Becher (1996, cited in Howatson-jones, 2013) suggest that self-reflection is a critical activity for nurses in their caring for others and, because it connects those who practice it with their inner selves and truth, is transformational. In regards to leadership and management, Burns (2003, cited in Marquis & Huston, 2009, p42) identified that there is two primary types of leaders in management.…

Writing could be one of the things I really hate. The fact that I have to come up with ideas to put into words was dreadful. I would rather be out doing something thrilling like skydiving than being stuck in my little room at my desk with nothing but a blank piece of paper, my thoughts, and a lamp that mocked my white paper filled with nothing. I hated when teachers would say, “Today we will be talking about our next assignment where we will come up with a three paged essay about blah, blah, blah...” That was until my realization hit that writing essays was not that horrible.…

“This was the only narrative I actually got into,” one said. “Yeah, it wasn’t hard to follow along at all,” said the other. When my friends talked highly about my writing, it made me feel genuinely proud of myself. Finally, I grasped the concept that I didn’t have to spend hours on end writing in order to have the perfect story that I was looking for. I just had to have a colorful imagination; then write that on paper.…

Writing did not come naturally for me as it did for other students, who could write within minutes and the piece was established as well said or a great explanation. I often dote on how many others have it so easy, while I spend my time struggling to write a few sentences that make sense to the reader. When I do write for school papers, my intent, like many others, is to follow the entire rubric, to make sure all that I have fits the prompt as I strive for good grades. When I was little and even now having good grades is not only essential to me, but important to my parents as well. My style of writing is hard to understand and many times I received criticism about my phrasing, an example of that being it was“awkward to follow.”…

Writing to most people is a form of communication, a way to remember things, or simply what they are forced to do in school. To me, writing is an escape, a way to express myself, and a way to show the world that beauty can lie in the darkest of places. Regardless of what it is to individuals, it is extremely important to our society. Writing can be easy for some and come to them without much of a thought. It can flow from the lead of a pencil or blossom from the spindly fingers upon a keyboard.…
