Personal Reflective Essay: My Writing Process

Improved Essays
My writing process is currently just typing whatever comes to mind at the moment and then going back to read over it. I’ve only written a personal narrative essay, I haven’t made a decent writing process yet. I also let a few of my friends read my paper and help me make corrections on Google Docs. On an estimate, I probably spent around 1-2 hours daily, typing and revising my paper in my dorm. Like I stated before, I currently just write whatever comes to mind and then revise it later. I also have a few of my friends from other schools grade my papers and occasionally I will use an essay grader online just to check if I have good punctuation. I usually use an “add on” on Google Docs called, “Gradeproof”, it corrects any spelling, grammar, phrasing, and helps with eloquence. I usually write whenever I have breaks between class or …show more content…
If I keep up with everything in class and don’t procrastinate, I should be getting decent grades the semester. I believe this is the most important thing because this is what we do daily and it is the main part of the class, taking responsibility to do your work on time. Responsibility, is also one of my goals, I need to remember to do the readings for in class and out of class journals. Another goal I have for myself is just to expand my writing skills, learn new ways to write and cite pages. The last goal I have for myself is to be more confident in my writings. I always feel like I’m doing the writing prompt wrong or my paper is really bad. Even though all my writings for my classes have been high grades and on topic with the writing prompt. I think I’m mostly just nervous because I took English 101 in high school with a highschool teacher. I feel like I didn’t get the adequate writing skills as most of the college students. My plan to make these improvements is just stay focused and know that all my college writing have been written

Learning to write When I attended elementary school, part of the curriculum was penmanship. There was a certain segment of instruction dedicated to penmanship rather than writing. We were given large sheets of oat colored paper with three parallel lines widely spaced. The alphabets were used to print and write in cursive using the midpoint, and upper lines for capital letters. The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…

My first year at Colorado College helped me identify where I should focus my efforts to improve my writing in the future. The most significant gain from my first year here has been a clearer understanding of my writing process. This has resulted in realizing a number of ways to improve my writing. Besides time management, I have identified some areas where I can improve my actual writing. I need to structure my writing time better: planning my essay before I begin writing, keeping an updated copy of my outline on hand, giving myself interim deadlines, and allowing plenty of time for editing.…

I have always struggled with writing essays and they’ve never come easily to me. I used to sit in my room, in the middle of the night, just staring at a screen, for what would feel like hours. Wondering, “When am I going to finish this paper, or even, start it?” The writing process is lengthy and has many steps, such as reading, brainstorming, creating an outline and a rough draft, editing, and finally having a final draft. These steps can help anyone write a decent and fully developed paper.…

Over the years, I have defined a technique for writing essays that best suits me. I always type essays on a computer at my desk, which is located in the office space at my house. There is no specific time of day when I decide to write an essay, but it usually will happen late at night when I have finished all my other homework and want to complete it, or I will write my essay early in the morning because I am busy during the day. Usually when I start writing essays, ideas come to me rapidly, so I prefer to write my whole essay at one time. After a couple days, I will go back to it during multiple occasions over the next week to revise it and make it the best it can be.…

Over the course of this semester in my English 1320 class I have seen a drastic change throughout my writing style. Although I still have difficulties with a few writing tasks, I believe that I have improved significantly throughout this course. I have found that with my professor’s guidance along with my own personal editing that my grades have increased. Although it is difficult to not get caught up in simply striving for a letter grade or attaining a 4.0 grade point average, I would like to believe that my main goal was different. Of course I would love to achieve those goals as well, but overall my primary goal throughout this class was to become more relaxed and comfortable in my writings, to use new strategies and proper kinds of conventions, and to truly find a way to express my passion on these papers.…

To be completely honest I have mixed feelings about writing and I don’t really have any memorable experiences that made me feel this way, it is just the experiences that I have had with the subject while trying to apply it. I struggle with what to write down mostly and creativity in general and I don’t really excel at any part of it. If I were to say I “excel” at anything it would be revising my work and adding to it. At the end of the semester I hope that I have relearned some key writing elements that lack of practice has caused me to lose.…

If I was writing a paper that required a specific number of paragraphs or pages I would typically plan my paper using the four square method. If I was writing an important paper I would write a rough draft, then as I was typing it I would revise it and fix any mistakes I found. One thing that remained consistent in my writing process, no matter the type of paper, is after I wrote the paper I would try to find more grade level appropriate words instead of the simple words I originally used. While writing essays for this class I came to find it is better to combine my writing processes to write the best possible essay I could. I found the best steps for me to take in writing my paper are to write my ideas down in some form.…

Every essay I have wrote I sent in to the writing center. They have truly helped me with breaking down my papers to make it easier for me to see what I have done wrong. For example, in my narrative essay they pointed out certain details that they felt needed to be added, like where they were staying and where was I going to go see them at. To me this was not details I thought were important, but they helped me to see that part of my story would have been confusing for my…

The three projects we have done in class are “What is a Family?” , “Immigration Reform”, and “Negative effects of Technology”. In the “Family” project, I talked about what makes family and the affects of gay marriages and interracial adoptees. As for the “Immigration Reform”, I talked about why we should embrace the Immigration reform because it will help create a pathway for success for immigrants.…
