My academic experience at Union College is the culmination of my varied academic experience growing up. I began my education in a highly diverse elementary school (2001-2007), which laid a critical foundation of being globally conscious of differing cultural beliefs and practices. Next, I attended a middle/high school named Lehman Alternative Community School (LACS) (2007-2012), that neither provided letter grades nor used exams as the principle ways to evaluate student’s abilities. LACS instilled a foundation of critical thinking abilities and pushed me to advocate and take initiative in my academic and professional endeavors. In 11th grade, I opted to transfer to the public, conventional school named Ithaca High School (2012-2013). For my final year, I became a member of the New Visions Health and Medical Careers Program, which allotted me the ability to develop a medical and professional foundation through in-depth shadowing in virtually every area within the hospital (2013-2014). Finally, my educational endeavors brought me to Union College, where I have been able to take the strengths of each of my unique academic atmospheres and apply them to different areas of my undergraduate experience (2014-2018). At Union, I have used the critical thinking abilities that I developed to help me analyze and address issues, …show more content…

Much of my time is spent in the nursery when mothers need a break. While in the nursery, I help change diapers, soothe babies, and ensure that no medical emergencies go unnoticed. This has helped me confirm my career choice and has helped those in my community bring in the next generation.

There is a program offered at Mercy College of Health Sciences (MCOHS) that was too good for me to pass up. My current focus has been on achieving my BSN and the program I had heard about was fairly new but provided an opportunity for me to get my BSN while doing it in only 2 short years.…

“I have to go here, dad. I just have to,” I told my father during our first tour of Colorado Mesa University’s campus. “I already feel like a Maverick,” I admitted as I straightened out my new CMU ball cap from the campus bookstore. It was a strange feeling knowing that I would no longer be Lakeland High School’s most spirited student, but there was excitement in knowing that I would soon show my pride for Colorado Mesa. Images of my blue and white spirit wear quickly changed to be maroon and gold.…

I am interested in the Early College Academy because it is a great opportunity. I understand that I will have to do a lot more work here than in other schools because of the college courses, but that does not matter to me. I will still study and work hard for the duration of my time here. This is the only school in which I can knock off two years of college for free. I also like the schedule here and how it's shorter, but I understand that I will have to use the rest of the time for studying and that's alright for me because in order achieve one's goals one has to work hard and that's what I…

I’m all too familiar with the process of finding a “purpose,” a quest that brought me to a meeting with my sophomore year Resident Director, Dylan Larke. As a first generation immigrant student, my university felt foreign and unwelcoming. My resident director listened as I painted my situation verbally; telling him that despite a lackluster first experience in college, I have this ardent desire to do more with my undergraduate career. I don’t remember the exact passage of our meeting, but it was through Dylan’s encouragement that I resolved to pursue active involvement on campus by running, and later elected, as a House Council Executive. My first leadership and student involvement in House Council led to a slew of campus involvement, specifically in Residential Life.…

For some, the entire process seems to be so natural while others spend years questioning if they will even make it there.
