Exploratory Log Reflection Paper

Introduction Throughout the course this semester, the use of exploratory logs has helped me to keep track of my behaviors. I have become more aware of the patterns in my behavior as well as learned why some of my behaviors takes place. Prior to taking data on the exploratory logs, I believed that my behaviors took place “just because”. I was unaware of the role that antecedents and consequences had on behavior; I was unaware of what antecedents, behavior and consequence truly were. One example that I found consistent was the completion and submission of homework assignments on time. Why had I gotten so accustomed to turning in assignments? How did I know that this behavior would lead to good grades? I learned so from past experiences. This was an important finding. I was surprised to realize that none of my behaviors happened “just because” but that they were determined by my environment and past experiences. I did not continue to engage in this behavior just because I knew to do so, I was taught this behavior. Although I found a better understanding and justification for me submitting my assignments in on time after starting these exploratory logs, I decided to choose eating meal prepping as my behavior of interest (BOI). I have learned that I spend a lot of money on fast food and a lot of time on cooking meals daily when I do not have …show more content…
I have not left anything out as far as what I will count as instances of the BOI; however, the behavior of walking into the kitchen according the definition is counted as a part of the behavior; however, that would mean that anytime I walk into the kitchen would count towards the behavior even if it is not to eat. To fix this, as I mentioned before, only the completion of the BOI from onset to offset will count as only one instance, not each individual

Summary of Strategy. This is a behavior monitoring strategy that promotes academic performance and attention behavior, it is a student-centered strategy that can be used to increase on-task behavior by encouraging monitoring of their own behavior (Martel, 2009). Self-monitoring has two components, measurement and evaluation (Loftin, 2005): that is, the student (1) measures and records his or her own behavior(measurement), and then (2) compares that recorded behavior to pre-determined standard (evaluation) (Wright, 2013). Self-monitoring can take on many forms, either form that it takes on it is utilized as a strategy to get the student to recognize the differences in what they are demonstrating and what should be demonstrated.…
