During this task group exercise, my group and I were given various tasks to complete. Each task allowed us to change roles and sometimes filling multiple roles through the course of each task. In the initial task, were given little instruction for us to complete the given task which left members of my group with many questions. In this instance I believe I took the role as the analyzer conceptualizer by stepping up and letting the group know what was expected from us. On the other hand, when it came to utilizing the items that were given to us by making an inventive presentation of the group dynamics we agreed upon, my others members stepped up as planner and doer. In groups, there may be several types of power present in the group that members possess. In this group there were two types of power present, expert power and personality power. Expert power is authority related to the possession of information or technical expertise. When it came to expert power, we all related to this power at some point in the exercise. I personally possessed this power, as well as the other group members when asked to demonstrate a social work theme and incorporate it in a puppet show. Having the knowledge or information of social work themes allowed us to have the authority of expert power. I believe this power was used consciously because we all had to access the knowledge that we have learned to complete the task. On the contrary, the presence of personality power I believe was used unconsciously. I believe certain people have the personality that allows them to gain power through charisma that just comes natural. I have done many group projects but I have not had the opportunity to reflect on different dimension that are involved in working in tasks groups. Not only does this allow me to reflect on working in groups in school, but it allowed me to recognize the way I would interact in groups outside of school. This exercise helped me to understand how to use concepts of task groups such as roles, norms, and techniques that will provide a positive and productive group experience. This activity did not allow me to fully grasp the concept of the dimensions of power.
