Personal Reflection Paper On Ras

The chapter I chose was Chapter Twenty-Two. The chapter covers the topic of "if I can't see it,it isn't there", which is a policy I think a lot of RAs take, especially when they are first year RAs I think the chapter I chose is a great, learning lesson for me. When I first found out I was going to be an RA, I thought of being the "cool RA." The RA that lets everything slide if they cannot see it. I at first thought that this was the best policy for residents because they are grown. During training, I reconsidered this policy after hearing all the bad things that can happen to residence when you let them do whatever they want. When other RAs were talking about residents having to go to the hospital from to much alcohol, I considered all the bad things that could happen to people that I am suppose to be looking out for. I did not like the idea that residents that I was suppose to be looking out for could be in harm's way.
The RA in the chapter, Scott, lets his residents do whatever they want as long as he does not "see" it. Although I am not as nonchalant as the RA in the chapter,I am not a super strict RA. I am understanding to girls on my floor because I was a freshman just like they were. I gave them a window of time when little infractions would just be warnings.

Next year, if I get the opportunity next year, I will handle my residents different as well. I will start off really tough enforcing policy, so they know from the beginning what the policies of housing are. It will also give me a chance to let them know I am the enforcer. I would like to handle all of my policy infractions the way Scott handled his infractions the next year. He was professional and understanding, but strict. That is exactly the way I want to handle situations. I am professional and understanding, but not always as strict as I should be. For now on, I hope to be stricter with

Most recently I had a client express to me that she was upset with a staff member because "she ratted me out, I thought she was my friend". This is a prime example of blurred boundaries. I had the opportunity to educate that individual on the fact that the staff member was doing their job and that they are not there to be a friend. I feel the regular education for the clients as well as staff what the boundaries are is important. I understand that there are times where maintaining that boundary is difficult, but in the end those rules and regulations are there for a reason.…

Lately in the news there has been some controversy in the news about transgenders using the bathrooms they claim they have to use. Recently Donald Trump has made a statement about transgenders saying he has no problem with transgender people using whatever bathroom they chose. In my opinion I think that transgenders should use the sex of gender they were born with until there transformation is complete. I think they should make a separate bathroom for transgenders or since they are in the process (unisex) . I mean if it was just one single bathroom with one toilet and it was meant to be used for both sexs then I don’t think that we should worry about anything because nobody else would be in there with you.…

Transition Shock is a term coined to reflect the newly graduated RNs’ initial feelings of anxiety and incompetence (Clipper and Cherry, 2015, p. 448) and the conflict between “school-bred” and “work-world” values (Boychuk Duchscher, 2008, p. 1104). A number of factors contribute to transition shock for the newly graduated RN. These can be broken into four domains: emotional, physical, intellectual and socio-developmental.…
