In general I feel that product placement in television and movies can be an extremely valuable tool not only for marketers but also for writers and producers. While there is certainly potential for this tool to be misused (read: overused), as long as marketers are subtle in the way they use product placement and recognize that, as the consumer, I never like to feel as I am being sold, I think there is plenty of opportunity for product placement to be employed by marketers and movie producers alike.
Product placement can also impact the quality of tv and film. As we see throughout the entire Bond series, brands play an important role in character development. Part of what makes James Bond such a memorable figure are the brands featured in his films and the ways that we have become accustomed to him interacting with these brands. Aston Martin is a perfect example of one of these customary brands. Any Bond fan will tell you how hard it would be to imagine a suave and sophisticated 007 chasing after villains or getting the girl in a Kia. It would never happen!

With this observation in mind, I would argue that Tom Ford had the most lasting impact out of any of the brands featured in the film. While their brand was never referenced directly, I think their product placement was the most compelling because of the strength of the association that was created between their products and James Bond’s identity.
