Personal Narrative: My Experience At Stern

We started as freshmen here at NYU and have grinded our way to the top of the food chain as graduating seniors. We have learned about ourselves in the process, but have also been influenced by our environment to think a certain way and believe certain things. I want to take a step back. I want to take this moment with you all to detach and reflect on my experience at Stern, and how it has shaped myself and my view of happiness. I then want to take my view and challenge it; challenge it to a point where I understand how my experience at Stern has both positively and negatively changed this view. With a (hopefully) clearer head, I want to talk about our futures as excel monkeys, entrepreneurs, and eventually business leaders, and discuss how our future ties back to our view of the world today. I know I sound vague, but please bear with me; I believe this will make sense soon enough.
So, who am I? Unlike most people at Stern, my first words

Benevolence and trustworthiness are pretty self-explanatory; things get more interesting when I speak of being respectful of corporate culture. We know Wall Street and other large companies do not always have the greatest reputation for being morally upright, as we hear of scandal after scandal in the news. Many times, people in our roles are found complicit in these scandals, as the only other option is whistleblowing and potentially losing their job. It is at this point where my obedience to corporate culture can be tested. Perhaps it is in the corporate culture to take part in an unethical act , and trying to innovate or change this culture only leads to being shunned from the company and possibly the

Elisha Burden Founder’s Scholarship, The King’s College October 27th, 2016 Word Count: 1, Solomon counsels, that “Wealth obtained by fraud dwindles, But the one who gathers by labor increases it”(Proverbs 13:11). With immorality at an all time high, there is a disappointing deficit of integrity driven individuals and corporations within society. Companies are far too often only invested in the typically conceived physical well being of the environment, and they neglect what is arguably of superior importance, the social environment. We live in a world riveted with narcissistic ambition, and the importance of business ethics is more crucial than ever.…

For the past year, I could only provide an indefinite answer to a frequently asked question, How was your freshman year? In fact, those of us who experienced our freshman year could be addressed as “college veterans” will never initiate a conversation with regard to the past year. Perhaps they consider that the freshman year was not as consummate as they initially planned. I cannot judge my first year in college was successful or frustrating, but I feel I benefited from the meritorious experiences and practical knowledge gained from my college life. In my opinion, no matter what goals one wishes to achieve in college, whether its grade, love, health, or sense of accomplishment, one has to be prepared for both failures and…

My graduate experience will be light years different then my undergraduate training. I chuckle just contemplating the technological difference alone. Back when I attended undergraduate school there wasn’t the internet, the LoudCloud, e-books, or personal laptop computers. We thought we were “hot stuff” because we progressed from the slide ruler to a state of the art Texas Interment graphing calculator. By the way google informed me that my particular calculator at that time was the first of its kind.…

The day of August 27, 2012 I was officially titled a freshman. One look down those unknown red and blue walls, will forever change my perspective of high school. There was an instant moment of disbelief in my freshman, I was terrified, and no thought came to mind as to how I was going to survive high school for the next four years. Of course I knew it'll be different from my tiny middle school, but will it be like the cliché movies about the upcoming of age, or resemble the happiest times of life. From that first day, I knew I wasn’t like everyone else.…

In this course so far, things started off relatively worrisome and stressful but things began to look up and get better but this is in relation to the internship. In regards to the class, things are going well and organized. I think one way to improve or to maintain the positive status of the class is to keep up with updates, remind class of any assignments coming up or what is due. While this is up to the student’s responsibility to be well organized and on top of their work, it does help aid in staying organized when you have a busy schedule and many other classes and other assignments that are due. Other than that, the quick email and DB responses are always a plus/positive.…

Organizational Values and Codes of Ethics A mission statement, in my opinion, is like a road map. You can use your mission and values to set a course. Keeping that course can help you reach your goal/destination faster and easier. We can see in the example of Clay Walker that a mission statement can be derived from a very personal experience. JEAN E. PALMIERI (Dec 2011) explains how Clay took his firsthand experience and turned it into his life’s work.…
