The Social Work curriculum consists of classroom education and learning from the actual fields of practice.The purpose of writing this journal is to document my learning experience and examine my skills in the practicum settings and apply them to my Social Service profession.

Classroom education provides the information basis , theoretical knowledge and understanding in all foundational area of Social Work. My days at Rexdale Community Health Centre will always be remembered as each day focus on facilitating different groups and activities and promoting good health. Each programs have their “Aha” moment from exercising, to drawing stick figures , painting memories, knitting shoes for newborn babies and telling stories of their youth.
As I reflect on each client daily routine it brought me to realized that we should be mindful of each other cultures, values, tradition and beliefs. My cultural awareness for each client ethnic background also allows me to better understand each client needs and as a Social Worker in an Ethno culture environment my goal is to advocate and promote social change in human relationship and empowerment according to the Code of Ethics Standards.
The learning objectives is a major learning method that consist of practice skills such as to develop my report writing skills , enhance my verbal and counselling skills to take care of the client psychological needs. Also using active listening, reflection of feelings, rephrasing and paraphrasing plays an important role when communicating and taking part in group activities. As a Social Service Worker my duty is to advocate for workplace conditions and policies that are consistent with the Code of Ethics and maintaining the best interest of each clients as a primary obligation. My client left the program but later returned to joined the second group to participate in her exercise. She was very calm about the situation and later thank me for being unrelenting and not letting her stay in the class.
Also another senior came to me and told me that she was impressed with me being stern with the client and that a few years ago she was not wearing the proper shoe in her fitness program in another group facility and fell and broke her leg and was hospitalized for a month . She told me that she learned her lesson and wished at the time someone was strict with her
