Personal Reflection On Food And Happiness In My Life

From a young age, I’ve always loved to cook. When I was little I would go to my grandma’s house and help her make bread and sarmale and at nine years old she gave me my first cookbook. However, as much as I love cooking, it could never come close to the love I feel when I am with my family and friends and the joy it brings me to make them smile and laugh. Through this class and really thinking about what is important to me, I have realized that my purpose is to make people feel loved and happy by using food and empathy to assess and react to any given situation. I plan on keeping with my purpose throughout my life by hopefully one day being able to have a family of my own and own my own home with land and animals to make great food and memories, …show more content…
I would very much love to have a family of my own one day, but before that happens, I am going to need a place to plant my roots. I would love to own my home by the age of 29 with land so that way I can get a few farm animals for personal use and to show my kids where food really comes from and to enjoy having them as quirky pets. In order to even get approved for buying the home, I would need to maintain my credit score of 750 which will also help in getting a lower interest rate. Next is the money, and by saving $469 a month, which is $5,625 a year for a down payment on a house I could also avoid having to get a private mortgage. By going with this plan, I will be able to buy a 3 bedroom/ 3 bath, 2700 sqft home with 2.5 acres of land at Golden Estates in Naples, FL for $300,000. By saving the $5,625 a year I will have enough for a 15% down payment on the house and be able to purchase it in eight years and after one year I can get some chickens, one cow for dairy and a micro pig as my loving indoor pet. Family is very important to me and being able to have my own would not only make me really happy, but my parents as well, and I get …show more content…
In order to do that I need to prove how seriously I take my job by studying the menu, always coming to work on time and only call out when I’m sick. I need to train on new stations and learn back of house items and how everything works for not only line, but prep as well because everything in the restaurant starts in prep. To prove my training is improving, there is a spec test for each station and a certification that comes along with passing each test and the more certificates I have the more proof I have that I am mastering this business. To become a sous chef, it will take about five years to get there from my current position on line and once I’ve made sous chef it will be about another three years till finally making executive chef. My grandma on my mom’s side used to work in a kitchen and she is the heart of my family. She is always cooking and she expresses her love with food. If you ask for one helping you get three and she beams when you love her food and she is the one who got me started with my love of food. To be able to make it to the top of the restaurant rank and have her come to eat and serve her food that am in charge of would make my heart sing. I am an Achiever and an Activator and when my heart is set on something there is nothing that will stop me from achieving it. However, making it to the top rank is

I will increase savings by using a better budgeting system such as putting back at least forty dollars every week. Therefore, I will be able to increase our current savings by sixty dollars each month. If I do this for the next ten years, my savings has the potential to be over nineteen thousand dollars. This has the potential to decrease stress by eliminating the rush to get together money for a large down payment on a house; therefore, decreasing the size of the home loan I will need. To conclude, by accomplishing my sub-goal of decreasing spending and increasing savings I can save enough money to be able complete my goal of buying a…

Being able to help other people and show compassion to other people, especially when some of them are in their most vulnerable state, was something thing that I truly love and cherish. For example, being able to share stories with other women, being able to help them during their pregnancy, and being able to provide health education and parenting support after their delivery. My fondness to kids also transcends in my craft as I was able to supervise some of the newborn from time to time. Later on, because to the huge support system for one another, one by one, some of my siblings were also able to create a big milestone for themselves and their own family. As time passed by, everything was going right to the point where I think it was all a dream until my beloved father became very ill.…

In the 2000 article, “Goal Replace Risk Assessment With Alternative Assessment”, author Mary O’Brien poses many strengths in comparison to the article, “The Pleasure of eating”, by author Wendell Berry. Throughout “Goal Replace Risk Assessment with Alternative Assessment”, Mary O’Brien informs readers about the provincial approach of risk assessment and how, as a society, we should take a more open alternative method towards estimating damages. O’brien delineates the flaw when conducting risk assessment because assessors do not tend to not think about all the costs added up when it comes time to making decisions. In other words, we do not take all factors into consideration thus leading to poor decision making. However, O’Brien elaborates…

I was ten years ago and I can still vividly remember sitting on an old, wooden rocking chair while the words of The Very Hungry Caterpillar trembled off my lips to a room full of second graders. I can recall the eagerness and excitement that filled their little faces as I flipped from page to page. There was an abundance of curiosity and desire to learn in that classroom that made me happy that I decided on skipping recess to read to the younger students. There was a fire that lit in my ten-year-old body that day. That was the day where I finally had an answer to all the “What do you want to be when you grow up?”…

In everyday life, dieting is the food a person consumes that can show what is and what is not healthy to eat. So, how does someone determine what is healthy or not because everyone in this world has a different body type. However, two authors have set out to write on such a topic. Michael Pollan, a nutritionist (Bullock 850), writes “Escape from the Western Diet” which is about Americans should completely cut out the Western diet because it consists of mostly processed food that is unhealthy for the body (Pollan 851). On the other hand, Mary Maxfield’s, a graduate student (Bullock 872), writes “Food as Thought: Resisting the Moralization of Eating” which is about how people should not moralize food because it is their body and they should be…

From a young age, my parents have always enforced the idea of eating healthy constantly badgering me to eat my vegetables or have a piece of protein with my meals. Although I might not have understood why their reprimanding was important, over the course of these last few weeks in biology I have come to realize that having a sound diet in many ways encompasses what it means to be healthy and live life to its fullest. By actively moderating, recording, and learning about what I have been eating I can now clearly understand that my parents were right to encourage healthy eating in my home. My parent, specifically my mother, was always the one who cooked and influenced my healthy eating at a young age. When looking at my food logs for this…

I find that the definition of happiness depends on the person and circumstances, and to me happiness is not a mere emotion that I wish to have every single moment in my life. Happiness is a relative term that some people consider an expected result of doing good deeds, and I believe it is a memorable feeling that lies in the joy of achievement and the thrill of effort and always linked to a place in some way. In order to understand what happiness is, I looked into my past and tried to find out if there is a formula for happiness. From my perspective, the level of personal happiness fluctuates depending on the situation.…
