Personal Reflection On Ap Literature

Decent Essays
I found this practice a little bit challenging. I found it challenging because I’m not very good at analyzing passages for AP exams. I figured that out last year in AP Literature. Although I did do well on this one I was very anxious about my answers because with passages and literature, I think everything is more of an opinion than anything. Everyone interprets things differently, especially hard, long passages on the AP exam. This passage was slightly easier than what I would’ve expected for the AP exam. Only slightly though.

Kayla read 53 words correctly out of 76 total words, scoring 69.7%. This percentage places Kayla in the frustration reading level for word accuracy, which is reading 68 words or less correctly and scoring at or below 90%. Kayla substituted words as the majority of her mistakes, she never repeated, reversed, or appealed. Some examples of her substitutions are: sometimes for “Sara”, becomes for “asked”, and explaining for “string”, there were about 20 substitutions in all. These mistakes made the passage difficult for her to understand because when the sentence said, “Mom, do you have some string?”…

In the article, “Why Literature Matters” by Dana Gioia, Gioia presents a claim that shows the decline of interest in the arts, specifically literature, in the newer generation of Americans. Within the piece, Gioia provides accurate statistics, a quote from a notable professional, and reports from trustworthy sources. Gioia makes an attempt to shift America’s attention to the downfall of participation in the arts. He seems to direct his argument mainly at the modern group of individuals. Starting off with introductory paragraph, Gioia begins to list positive changes in American society, such as college attendance ballooning and access to information skyrocketing enormously, but then quickly drops to one negative: “the interest young Americans showed in the arts – and especially literature – actually diminished.”…

Portfolio Assignment Throughout the Rhetorical Analysis paper that I completed for this English 101 class, I called back to many of my past experiences in high school that allowed me to interpret the meaning of the song that I decided to choose. The main skills from my past that I referenced were: my ability to comprehend text, my ability to convey a message through an essay, and my ability to view a text with an open mind. Opening my mind to the text was one of the more challenging abilities that I used. Using this ability allowed me to grasp the meaning of this particularly challenging text and, due to how easily I completed the required length of the paper, I believe that I was fairly successful in my endeavor.…

After reading the articles “Rethinking Advanced Placement” the author Christopher Drew illustrated about the advanced placement test that keep on increasing the number of materials from 36 chapters with 870 pages long to 56 chapters and 1400 pages. The increasing number of the material fuel the panic nearly every term to determine who will receive a college credit for course in A.P subjects. However, the A.P placement test will reduce the way that student learn and think as a scientist since the A.P design the student memorize the course content in order to past the test only. A good example of this is from the article state that “studies show that most school do the same canned laboratory exercises, providing little sense of the thrill of…

On the first day of class, I felt pretty confident about my level of skills as a writer, but little did I know there were a lot of aspects in my writing that could be improved. As time progressed and we learned more about colloquial language and little things I could change in my essays to further advance and improve my writing. Now, I feel even more confident about my writing and know that all of these little changes I can make in my writing create a better flow of ideas and a higher level of formality. I feel that throughout this semester I have been greatly challenged as a writer and have advanced the most that I ever have in writing within such a short period of time. I have put in a lot time and effort into this class in order to create…

Dear. Mrs. Kreider, I am so excited to be in your class this year! I have always loved to read and analyze literature, and I know this year will be no different. I have taken Pre AP or AP English every year it has been available to me, and I decided to take AP Lit to continue the same high level of English discussion and analysis I have enjoyed each year of high school. Along with expecting to delve deep into the discussion of various books, plays, and poems, I also expect that this year, in AP English 12, we will discuss the differences between last years AP Language exam and this year's AP Literature exam and get plenty of practice with both AP multiple choice and the three free response question styles.…
