The ideal role of the student is to consistently attended class, eagerly and with excitement, be prepared to absorb, discover and realize his or her full potential in order to become a productive and honourable member of society. Unfortunately, the reality is far removed. Children, even pre-schoolers, have become jaded and unenthused about formal education. Many are sceptical about the abilities of teachers and the lasting influence these teachers will have on their academic success. Students of today have had many unfavourable experiences with education and many attend school because they are expected to attend, or forced to do so be domineering parents. Many are confused and wary about education and rebel against a system they do not understand. Students must be lead to garner understanding and inspired to discover their own knowledge through the efforts of pleasant, compassionate, and knowledgeable teachers.

The role of a teachers may soon become redundant or absolute as more and more opportunities present its self for learners to chart their own education and determine the parts of education are value to them and those that are expendable. My idea of the purpose of education takes an existentialist view and I believe that as free, individuals we are responsible for determining our own growth and development through our actions. This idea is applicable to both educators and students. The purpose of education is to provide an effective avenue for the acquisition of desired knowledge through varied means of delivery, free of any and all prejudices, allowing for personal self-expression, creativity, critical feedback, guidance, socialization, relationship building, and real world application and
