Teaching Team Reflection

Improved Essays
As I begin to reflect back on the course, there were so many positive learning experiences that raced through my mind. I cannot help but constantly think about how amazing the teaching team truly was. Having the opportunity to be exposed to what “right” looks and “FEELS” like, is truly astonishing. This past journey made me consistently think of John Wooden’s famous quote, “Being a role model is the most powerful form of educating…too often people neglect it because they get so caught up in making a living they forget to make a life” (as cited in Middleton, Brown, Andress, Pockrandt, Turner, Adetilewa, & Oliver, 2016). So many lives came to life throughout the course because of the well-thought-out conditions that were set by the teaching team. Moreover, this has caused me to affirm my leadership stance on the power and efficiency of relationships, which is why reflect on my convening case more so than anything else.

Looking back on my convening case has reminded me why relationships can be so powerful. It’s the reason why one person felt powerful enough to band together and try to derail another person’s curriculum - mine. However, I never took the time to try and make a friend prior to our meeting. I left my emotions do what they normally do, and that is

Throughout that study, I concluded that trust is beyond more powerful than we realize. I compared our data to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and found that “Safety” is relative to the individual – it all comes down to trust. The real question was, not do people feel safe, but do they trust their surroundings and environment. This is why people in combat or conflict can stand side-by-side and not fear safety. It is what allows a loved one to stand in self-reliance for us when we are vulnerable. Accordingly, the power and efficiency of strong relationships goes far beyond our personal

I’ve always viewed college pessimistically while I was in high school; I use to think about the overwhelming lecture halls, the huge class sizes, and uncaring professors. I use to think that professors were intimidating figures that wanted to make their classes so difficult that one could possibly fail. My entire view on the tertiary education system changed when I met my Focused Inquiry professor, Dr. Julia Kaziewicz. I wanted to interview Dr. Kaziewicz to further understand why I am intrigued by her methods of teaching. Dr. Kaziewicz conducts herself in a way that students feel comfortable sharing their personal experiences, much like a trust worthy friend.…

Although some are surprised that there is a scale of trust, psychologists have been using one since the 1980’s. The level of trust needed to tell a person their biggest secret is the fifth level of trust on the 5 experiential levels of commitment scale. This can be explained using the social attraction trust hypothesis, paired with a discussion of the three main factors of trust. To understand the topic of this essay, one must first identify and isolate what trust is. Trust is a sensation that is both emotional and logical .…

However, this class is one of the very few experiences I had that gave us space to think through this dynamic and especially apply it to our own lives. This is concerning, since it is a small capstone class, which means most graduating seniors at the College have not been exposed to material like this. More exposure to formative experiences like this one could impact the way students consider their impact on…

As I reflect on my internship I realize it actually started during the summer, my principal asked that I be involved in the Summer Leadership meetings. The school representatives for these meetings were the principal who is a first-year principal with a high school background, the assistant principal who is a first-year administrator and another assistant principal who has spend most of his time in high school, the multi-tiered system of support coach, who is also new to the school and me. This combination was very interesting because I was the only one who had any experience at the school. This combination of administrators has made my internship a bit difficult, simply because they are learning their own roles and responsibilities, so it makes it difficult for them to assign me any of those roles and responsibilities. I have often felt as they feel I am…

When thinking about my relationship skills I would rate myself a 9 for collaboration, a 6 for conflict resolution and 9 for coaching. Collaboration comes easy for me as I like to work in groups. I find that I look at things differently than I do when working alone, which of course is a key component of collaboration. However, I have to be careful at times as I find it easier to finish certain task quicker when I work alone.…

Teamwork and collaboration, good communication, and confidence are the three strengths I believe I demonstrated during this rotation. My clinical rotation as a student nurse did not only imply observing the providers, but also meant active participation on my part. Being engaged, enabled me to put into practice what I have learned in theory. The first day of my rotation, the nurse permitted me to augment the Pitocin dose by two units after 20 minutes. I thought that was exciting because I learned about the medication in the class and participated in administering it.…

The sustainability team project exposed me to a variety of skills and concepts while dealing with a complex problem, one of them being team conflict. I would like to reflect on this, since my opinion about it has changed, as we progressed through the course. There were various conflicts that occurred during the project, but only one in particular was significant to change my opinion about team conflicts, it was towards the end of the project. When the team was discussing solutions to the complex problem, there was disagreement with the team on what the solution should look like. As, different team members had different opinions and expectations from the project, which led to the conflict within the team.…

When I delivered the teaching session, the experience was an overall success with students showing a clear interest and engaging in the lesson (Table 1, question 10, mean 4.3). The teaching began with a clear introduction to the key learning points for the whole session (Table 1, question 5, mean 4.3), which allowed the students to understand what the session was going to entail. This was beneficial to those who needed to see the big picture to see how topics fit together[1]. I further explained that the session will be split into three sections and explained that certain learning outcomes will be covered in each section. Student feedback stated that there was “enthusiastic teaching in appropriate sized teaching bites.”…

Introduction The coach’s role is to develop the coachee’s resourcefulness through skillful questioning, challenges, and support; not advising because when advice is given, the coach implies that he or she knows best and that the coachee does not (Rogers, 2012). Coaching requires a listening ear to ensure that the coachee is understood and is making decisions that will ultimately help accomplish the goals. During this final coaching session, my client and I will be working together to close the coaching sessions and then determine the next phase of our relationship Pre-Coaching Plan…

My classroom was a reflection of the sprawling slum that surrounded it. It was an amalgamation of violence, malnutrition, self-destructive attitudes, adolescent confusions, dysfunctional families, and dire poverty. These problems had trickled down into the behaviour and mindsets of my students; I realised that I could not expect my students to learn the way I did when I was in school. This fellowship instilled in me a strong will to overcome obstacles and come up with solutions. Thus, with the will to find answers, I began my visits to the community.…

Leadership is both a science and an art. Good leadership requires an accurate sense of self, a well-communicated vision, the ability to earn the trust of others and the capability to take effective action. In order to “build your house of leadership” your actions must inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more. (Duren, Lec. 2). Throughout the semester, I have learned that some of the five Kouzes and Posner leadership practices in The Leadership Challenge come naturally to me while others do not.…
