Introduction:

Time for self-reflection.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, Human self-reflection is the capacity of humans to exercise introspection and the willingness to learn more about their fundamental nature, purpose and essence.

Being honest to myself, I needed to admit that I do not know which management style I now practice or prefer. So back to the drawing board I went, dissecting my character - management style.

For me to be able to pin point my prefer style of management , I first need to point out the flaws (weaknesses) and strength of my current management style , unique attributes I bring to the table and then have a look at Hersey and Blanchard theory

My unique attributes is my determination and ability to exert (apply) influence in a way that encourages my team members to follow to a desired outcome. I take on every challenge head-on and do what I need to carry out my goals, I am naturally competitive, pushing the boundaries.

Hersey and Blanchard Theory of Management Style

Situational Leadership Theory (SLT) – A contingency theory that focuses on followers readiness, the more ready the followers (the more willing and able) the less the need for leader support and supervision.

During the process of self-reflection it became clear to me that as a project manager I must be able and willing to adapt my management style to different project and team member’s requirements. What is the meaning of change you may want to ask? The Wikipedia describes it as the process or result of becoming

After reflecting on who or what event provided me with leadership influence I concluded there wasn’t one person or one event that has had the most effect on me to strive to become a better leader or person for that matter. Many of my past supervisors and present alike have been good and bad with more good than bad. I attempt to take pieces from each of their leadership qualities, use things I liked and stayed away from their “bad” leadership qualities I did not believe helped me grow as a leader or produce quality jobs or mission results. All the while, my own personality and beliefs intertwined with their leadership styles to make me who I am today as a leader.…

INTRODUCTION In Shane, Strong, and Gransberg’s article, “A Multidimensional Model of Project Leadership,” the authors argue that the typical triple constraint of project management no longer fully covers the constraints faced when managing projects and, therefore, is not as applicable in measuring project success as it once was. They suggest that there are a number of other constraints that need to be considered in addition to the traditional three of cost, time, and quality. Adding these other constraints into the equation, these authors came up with a multidimensional construct for project leadership. CONCEPT OF THE TRIPLE…

Personal leadership / management style analysis During my first few weeks in the field experience course, I have noticed the complexity of leadership and management that is involved in the work field. Both, a leader and a manager are very important people in an organization. According to Collins (2001), managers and leaders “exist in different forms, roles and responsibilities”; as a result, Five Level Hierarchy exists, where level one has highly capable individuals, two is contributing team member, three is competent manager, four is an effective leader, and finally five is an executive. A great leader must be an effective communicator in order to lead a group of people in order to accomplish a goal or vision.…

I completed the seven habits profile and the results indicate that my style of leadership resonates with the principles found in “Participative Leadership” which is also known as “Democratic Leadership”. As described by Kendra Cherry (Cherry, 2016), Democratic leadership, is a type of leadership style in which members of the group take a more participative role in the decision-making process. Everyone is given the opportunity to participate, ideas are exchanged freely, and discussion is encouraged. While the democratic process tends to focus on group equality and the free flow of ideas, the lead of the group is still there to offer guidance and control.…

As leader I am also able to influence my team to work with me and not for me by utilizing my conscientiousness and by being an example of the behavior I expect to see. My ability to form good one on one relationships with my team members allows me to create a work environment that is rooted in loyalty and trust. Before undertaking this course and gaining self awareness, I was a leader that struggled to appreciate or understand how different people react or work based on their personality type. I just expected everyone to be at the same standard as myself.…

Leadership Style Self-Assessment 1 After taking the style questionnaire during while studying the Leadership Grid in Northouse; as expected, I found that my leadership style varies, although of the three theories discussed, more closely relates to team leadership. My assessment found my strengths to be with authority compliance (9,1) and team management (9,9). As suggested by Northouse (2012), “The 9,1 style of leadership places heavy emphasis on task and job requirements, and less emphasis on people, except to the extent that people are tools for getting the job done” (p. 79). The Team Management style is based on tasks and relationships. I consider myself more tasks orientated and analytical, while spending less time with my subordinates’ personal issues.…
